Any other WSU College of Nursing Applicants for Fall 2011 out there?

Published

Hello all. Just trying to see if there are any other students waiting to see if they have been asked to interview for a spot in the WSU CoN for fall 2011. I know that interviews will take place two Saturdays next month but have no idea when the school sends out notices to interview. If you are a current student in the program I would love to pick your brain about the school itself. Best of luck to all on ultimately getting into the program.

Hello,

I just received a Interview letter for BSN program at WSU Spokane. I am bit of nervous regarding the interview as I never gave one interview before. Could you please tell

(1) what type of questions they ask so i can prepare for it?

(2) Do you still remember the type of questions you were asked? it would be really helpful if you can share them with me?

(3) total how many questions i will be asked?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

CONGRATS on your interview. You've made it one HUUUUGE leap forward.

I can completely understand your nervousness, I was in your shoes what seemed like yesterday. Some pointers/answers to your questions. The questions are all random and confidential so I can only tell you of my questions, but I venture that they're all about the same. You'll of course get the typical "why nursing, why WSU" type question. But also, perhaps expect a "diversity" question, an ethical question, and a tell us about yourself. They really aren't that tough if you just tell the truth and show who you really are. I want to say there were three or four questions.

Some things to note. The people asking the questions ARE your professors, the Deans, the Undergraduate office people, basically ANYONE! So know that these people ARE the College of Nursing and are some very AWESOME people. They're absolutely approachable, kind, and really want you to succeed. And I mean that! The entire CoN faculty really do want you to succeed and will set you up for success!

Knowing what I know, here's what I would do. Dress nicely (not over the top, but dress to impress). Be courteous and professional to EVERYONE you see (including the receptionist, you'd be surprised just who it may be). Come into the interview with some general ideas to the questions noted above, and what your personal strengths are. I truthfully wouldn't dread it or lose sleep over anything. Know you've made it this far and that says a lot about you! Also, show up a little bit early, 20-30 minutes or so, and let the ambassadors show you around. They're students asked to represent the school and will become some of the first people you can trust and get information from. They will tell you what it's all about.

It's perfectly okay to be nervous, but just know you've got a great advantage just by having that interview letter! I hope to hear from you with the progress and if you have any questions or anything feel free to email me at [email protected] I would be glad to answer any questions!

oh, and Mr. Wright, I'll see you at 8:00! Hope P.T. is good for you :)

Congrats on your interview! :yeah:

It's been a few years now so I can't remember too many of the specifics. I know they asked me why nursing and one about a confrontation I've had and how I resolved it. The questions were random and it is unlikely that the people you know had the same questions... almost like the NCLEX actually lol :)

Great piece of advice from a previous poster is to show up early. The person interviewing before me didn't show up and they called me name early. You can take a tour afterwards.

Dress appropriately for a formal interview and modest! But most importantly, relax!! Just remember that your application already meets their standards and they just want to get to know you. Good luck :nurse:

I have a interview on the 22nd. Thank you for all the input. Ive worked so hard for this opportunity. It seems like some people received their acceptance letters in less than a month. I can't wait to go and enjoy beautiful Spokane. I have to admit I am a little nervous too. I just hope I don't get hit with bad luck and totally choke on the interview, or my sweet baby keeps me up all night.:)

Hello and congratulations on your interviews! To have gotten this far is quite an accomplishment and you should be proud. The instructors and staff here who will be interviewing you are pretty much amazing! The advice given above has been spot on. I am currently a J1 student with Amnstokes so it wasn't long ago that we were in your position.

Be prepared to talk about why exactly you want to be a nurse, significant challenges you have overcome, tough decisions you have had to make and the process used to make them, and other general questions that will give the interviewers a chance to see who you are as a person and not just a name on an application.

I'm so excited for all of you. Good luck and feel free to ask any further questions no matter how silly you might think they are.

PT was great Amnstokes!

I just spoke with WSU Spokane, and was told that ALL acceptance letters went out this morning! Watch those mailboxes, and good luck to you all!

If you open up the mailbox and find a thick package....your golden! It will be so nice not to be the new guys anymore.

I got my letter from WSU on Saturday, I'm on the waitlist so I'm very disappointed. I called to see what specifically they could tell me about why I was placed on the wait list and my overall GPA is a little low 3.26 from my first B.A. But my nursing prereq GPA is 3.85! I don't think it's fair of them to judge me based on old grades from when I was a kid when I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, because now obviously I'm a high achiever and ready for this. I also think they are a little hypocritical in saying they look for well rounded students because I know of many students who didn't even get an interview simply based on GPA. They don't take into account non-traditional students who are having to work full time and sacrificing so much to go back to school. The guy I'm thinking of works full time, and was taking 20 credits summer quarter and got a 3.7 in biochemistry! And on top of that he was volunteering every Saturday at the hospital! His overal GPA 3.6, and probably the most "well rounded" canidate I can think of and he didn't even get interviewed! WSU needs to be more open minded, if someone can balance full time work and school and still get decent grades think of how well they will work under pressure as a nurse! No offense but until you try making your mortgage payments while making tuition payments you haven't been under pressure. Maybe WSU should recant that statement and just tell the truth, "we only care about your GPA". Thats my rant for the day!
