Any Sam Houston State University Spring 2013 prospective students out there?

U.S.A. Texas

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to post and see if anyone out there was planning to apply to Sam Houston's BSN program this Fall? Or if any of you are already students there. It's a very new program, so I'm just curious about the quality of the program. Unfortunately it's the closest program to where we live by a long shot. So rather than having to drive 2+ hours each way to the medical center I've decided it's probably the best shot. I would prefer to apply to UT or TWU, but I may not have the choice.

I've debated seriously over the last year about whether nursing is the best career choice with the economy being in a stand still and so many new nurses out there not being able to find work.

What I really want to do is to go on to a Pediatric Nurse practitioner program. I had seriously put some thought into going to medical school, but I just don't know if I can bring myself to pay well over $200,000 for the education and spend the next 10 years in school.

Do any of you regret your decision to go to nursing school? Do you feel that there are better career paths out there right now? Or do you think the economy will eventually right itself and the job situation will get better?

I would appreciate your input!

Take Care,

Sonseria

It says they are accredited by SACS (forgot what it stands for)...do they need more accreditation?

That's the overall school's accreditation. Definitely important, but being a graduate of an accredited nursing program means it was accredited by the NLNAC or the CCNE. If they're granted accreditation at any point while you're there, you'll always be a graduate from an accredited school. If they're accredited after you graduate, it doesn't come back to you.

Not trying to discourage anyone from attending, just something to be aware of when you're decision making :)

Whose starting the program this fall?

I'm hoping to transfer next semester... if you have any v suggestions or input it would be great!

I'll probably go here if I do not get accepted anywhere in Houston. Oh and yall I went and spoke to the advisor for the med programs and I was told they were expecting to be accredited in August.

Hi!

Do you mind sharing your stats? I'm just curious of my chances. I'm so nervous. I'm getting ready to apply to shsu nursing for the spring. My overall gpa is 3.2 and my science gpa is 3.5. I made an overall 85.3% on my teas.....

Thanks for any input

GPA- overall: 3.4 /science: 3.2 I believe

I got an 83 on my TEAS

Ok that's pretty close to mine. So hopefully I will get in too! Thanks so much for sharing. I appreciate it

I have been accepted to the Fall 2013 semester. I was wondering if those of you already attending SHSU's nursing program could give me some advice and tips of things that will be happening.

Also, things like how you organize, what things you keep in your lecture bag vs clinical bag, and what you keep on you for clinical.

Anything would be appreciated!

I want to apply for Sam Houston, but do not know if my scores are good. My gpa is 3.5, but my teas score is only 70%. Please help.

Those are my exact stats. I applied for Spring 2014. When are you trying to apply?

Hello Nikwill,

I am trying to apply for spring 2014, but do not know if my scores are good. I also applying to TWU, but I see many people with higher GPA's and Teas scores. Did they told you that you scores are good to apply, or that you are competitive to be accepted? I do not have a lot info about this school because the program is new. Do not know what to do...
