I have read about what happened to joeturtle too! I feel so sorry for him. Maybe he just got so excited after taking the test that he wanted to let everyone know what he went through.

Anyway, how are Queensland nurses doing nowadays?!

Branyan is one successful nurse who went thru the whole process of application by himself in Queensland and now he is already working in Australia with his family, I believe. He is such an inspiration and very willing to guide you on the steps. But I think he is currently busy with work. He underwent CAS taking Part A exam, took 2 modules (I think) and took the Part B (one month clinical placement) in Australia and he was sponsored by the institution where he had the placement. You can PM him if you have any questions and just wait patiently for his reply. Hopefully we'll have the same luck!! =) goodluck to all of us!!

hi aelith,

do you know of anyone who went through the whole CAS thing and was really able to make it in Australia? :) i've been reading through a lot of threads, the only person i know who i think made it to Oz is joe turtle, but i cant find him anywhere in the thread. pls let me know if you know of anyone was successful in their application to Queensland. thanks aelith.

Hi fellow nurses. I went through the whole CAS thing and it was a long, expensive and challenging experience. Passed Part A and went to Queensland for Part B. I did get registered but finding employment was another story. I only have 6 months of experience and hospitals wanted someone experienced, ideally from a western country like Ireland or UK. Maybe the financial crisis also had a role to play. I approached one of the nursing agencies there and they were very accomodating, their advice for me was to continue working here until they can find me an employer-sponsor. I was only given a 4 week tourist visa so I had to return home. Luckily, the hospital where I worked before welcomed me back. Have done several phone interviews with OZ employers, but haven't received a formal job offer yet.

My advice to nurses who want to go through this route:

1. Study hard for the CAS exams. Being licensed is a big plus in the job hunting game

2. Take the 4 week clinical placement instead of the Part B exam. It might increase your chances for employment and you could be given a longer stay in your visa.

3. Get current experience, the nursing agency told me some employers accept those with less than 1 year as long as it is current

If you ask me if its worth it, my answer is YES. Australia is a beautiful country and I would love to work there. Just be patient and persistent.

i second the motion chiaren! and we better be up on our toes - complete our documents and submit our assessment application - it's so nearing the july 2010 deadline. and when they will already enforce the national registration rules, there might be changes that may affect us or other future applicants. let's just cross our fingers :)

Thank you all for your well wishes. I also hope you all get registered in queensland. I will try to answer some of the questions posted here including some private messages I received since I am not allowed to post PM.

1. Once you get queensland registration, you are eligible to apply for registration in other australian states and new zealand without much hassle. There is a mutual recognition agreement and a trans-tasman agreement that allows this.

2. As to the nursing agency I approached, I'm not really sure if its allowed to post names here but you can do google on nursing jobs in australia and there are many agencies to choose from. Most of them do not charge any fees to applicants.

3. Should you do the CAS or BP? I'm not really sure what to tell you but I'm biased towards CAS. For me, it is the least expensive among the other options and takes the shortest amount of time to finish. However, BP also has the advantage of having additional credential in your resume and the opportunity to stay longer in OZ.

4. Why tourist visa? This was the type of visa that the CAS coordinator advised and so I followed. I actually applied for a 3 month stay but unfortunately was only given 4 weeks and had to return home before it expired. That is why I advice you to take the clinical placement instead of the part B exam so you can be granted a longer stay.

Did another phone interview yesterday. I hope to get hired soon but anyway, the job hunt continues for me.

thanks buddy_nurse! i was one of the people who pmed you, so thank you for your reply. yeah, i too think that it's better to do the 1 month clinicals because at least one will get more accustomed to the ins and outs of australian hospital/aged care setting within that time as opposed to the one day challenge. and yes i too will look for work there thru the help of nursing agencies (as i really do not now where to start once i get there for the clinicals provided that i pass the written challenge test).

thanks too for the insight regarding bps. if i just have the budget to go for it i really would because i think the bp is also a very good way to being accustomed to aussie ways both clinical and theoretical. but unfortunately, no budget hehehe...

thanks and god bless on all our applications!

Thanks for the info buddy_nurse.. I'm kind of worried that after all the hard effort and money we spent, work would be hard to find! But I guess it's all part of the risks we need to take and we'll just have to continue praying that our plans would somehow be realized. Good luck to all of us!

Hello everyone.

I'm just curious. Is anybody among you here has experience? I mean have anyone of you ever worked in a hospital or something?

This is a very informative thread. An agency in Australia promised that they can provide straight registration in QNC bypassing all that assessment.

Thanks.
