Any Pinoys who can share experience w/ CVS -CGFNS?

I am about to send my Credential Verification Service application for NY. I'm confused because I've been hearing a lot about how long CVS is taking... one nurse experienced almost a year before it was sent to the NY Board. Some say it will take only about 4 months... So i wanted to hear from Filipinos who have actually availed of this service from CGFNS... I was thinking that this may be the fastest way to get an initial license than other State, but some comment that it is actually faster to get the Certification Program of CGFNS than the CVS.. Is that true?

Unfortunately it is soo true for me. I've been waiting for my CVS for almost a year now. I called them up several times and seems like they don't know what they're saying. You call the day after and they'll tell you a different thing :-(

almost 8 months before i got my ATT for NY CVS.....my wife's CVS was submitted 9 months ago and until now, no ATT for her

I'm not quite familiar with NY Board of Nursing but obviously they need the CVS c/o CGFNS. Be very careful in considering to use this service. If the BON has other agency(ies) to verify your credential, then I advise you to consider them first.

In Florida where my wife is planning to register, the BON has two other agencies to do the credential evaluation before you can apply for licensure. Unfortunately we used the CES. Her application was filed in November 2005 and we're still waiting for the report up to this date.

Big issue with using any other credential verifiation service is that if you decide to go to another state that requires the CES, you will have to go thru that.

Not taking the sides of CGFNS, but do you know for a fact that your school sent in the transcripts and that CGFNS actually received them? The CES process usually takes only about two months or so on average. Many times it is issues with the originating school.

We didn't have any problem with the school. The real problem lies within the CES/CGFNS.

My wife applied via online. After receiving all the necessary documents, CES sent a letter to the school that they need the number of hours in Pharmacology. Initially, we were furious with our school on the notion that how can they missed supplying pertinent data on the form. When we reviewed the photocopy of the form we submitted, we found out that there was really no Pharmacology subject on the list. Now, my question with CES is how can the school predict other subjects that they need, if it was not asked for in the first place?

When we checked their downloadable form via the internet, the form has actually Pharmacology on it. Ergo, there is a discrepancy with their forms which they need to rectify. We actually raised this issue to one of their representatives but they just ignored it and reverted the blame to the school which is really not fair.

The other issue that we have is when CES sent the letter to our school, they used my wife's current name instead of using her name when she was attending the school. Obviously, the school's registrar didn't recognize the name and shelved the letter for nearly a month. You don't inform your school re: current name after you've left, do you? It was clear on the form that she filled out the name she used when she attended the school. How can they make such stupid mistake?

How can I recommend CES with this mess? On their website, you won't even see a section for complaints. When we asked them over the phone who can we speak to raise our concerns, we were re-directed to the voicemail of their quality control service. Try their email for their contact us category and God only knows when they will respond to you.

:balloons: Hi to all!! I filed my CVS last January 2005, CGFNS mailed my report to Albany June 2005, took 6 months to process, but that including the delay of my transcript validation form, which was mailed through ordinary Philippines post, took two months to reach them!!! So I guess, the processing times here varies depending on how fast your school and licensing authority would send in your documents. But calling CGFNS to verify status of your application and finding out what is still needed helps speed things up. :lol2:

So have you sent your CVS forms to CGFNS? I'm beginning to doubt the sanity of having to go through this requirement. Would you know any state that just require the NCLEX and nothing more.

The Credential Verification Service (CVS) is a requirement by NYSED to be eligible for the NCLEX. After CGFNS collects and verifies your credentials as authentic it will send the report to NYSED and then they will review your transcript and local license (if you have) if it meets their educational equivalent.

If you don't have plans to work in NY then you'd better off applying to another state w/c are faster and also gives your license w/o an SSN requirement.

However, if you want to really work in NY then there are no other way but go thru the CVS for NY. It wouldn't matter if you already passed the NCLEX or already licensed in 1 state. As long as you're a foreign RN, you will STILL have to go thru the CVS for NY as if you weren't licensed at all. In short - start from scratch. Only thing is that of course you won't take the NCLEX again.

Point is: if you want to work in NY you better go thru the CVS the 1st time around. It will only delay you some more if you think you're gonna save some time by applying to a "fast" state then endorsing to NY.

Unfortunately, these are the CURRENT rules. There are no news as of yet of NYSED waiving that service as of yet or changing the endorsement rules. Hope they will though... esp. now that NJ only needs the CES to be able to sit for the NCLEX. If NYSED finally realizes that foreign RNs will most prob. shift to going to NJ instead then maybe they can relax some of their rules or do away w/ the CVS itself.

I was originally licensed in Vermont. They require transcript of records, certification from your school and PRC that the medium of instruction and language used in the licensure exam (local board) was in English, respectively. This was three years ago. I advise you to visit their website for updates.

I didn't have CGFNS nor English test when I sat for the NCLEX.

You'll encounter CG though on your visa screen. Prepare yourself because it takes them ages to process docs.
