Any older students??

Published

I just turned 28 in November & will be starting college in the Fall of 2013 to get my BSN. I've just not had the time or money to be able to pursue my career until now. I realize that having been out of school for 10 years getting in the swing of things will be somewhat difficult, but I'm hoping that my level of maturity will really help my resolve & drive. Is anyone else in my same boat or been in it? And advice?

28 sounds pretty young to me, lol. Seriously though, congrats on the scholarship! Wow!

I've had students from 17, to some in their late 50's. All comes down to who you are as an individual. Age is part of your personality, but not an indicator that you will succeed or fail. My advice, keep up with the reading, there is never time to catch up later, because the assignments just don't stop coming. Go for it!

When I see your ages, I feel pretty old at 52 but even when I sit in a wheelchair I am going to achieve this lifelong dream of being a BSN. I wish all of us well in our endeavors and encourage the fight of your life to the end.

A good friend of mine from the past just called the other day and she just got her doctorate at the age of 60! She has been the principal of an elementary school for all these years getting her masters and now Dr. Who cares about age? If you're old enough to keep learning, do so!

I'm 30 and have been in and out of college since 18. This is my best run in school yet because of my maturity and understanding. You'll do just fine and kind of chuckle at the antics of the younger ones at time :)

OMG yes! This is very true :) I have a 54 year old in my class and she is HILARIOUS!

I guess I never realized how many people had waited to go to school until a little bit later in life. I do think it's strengthened my resolve in that I know what hard work will be involved & am completely willing to do it all. I'm also finally at a point that I have a partner in life willing to help me realize my goals. I think he's almost as excited for me to get my degree as I am!!

I'm turning 28 next month and I feel old lol I have a lot in my class that are fresh out of high school and that's what makes me feel old. I do think you look at things differently just because of life experiences. I know that people in school who are are a bit older then me look at things differently too. I just find it hard sometimes relating to my classmates because of the age difference, that and one guy in my class calls me mom...... I'm not that old!!!!! Lmao

I have a bit different story. I got a PhD at 26 and now just graduated with my ADN at 61. Numbers do not mean much; health, desire and willingness to work hard trump age every time.

I am 46 years old and changing my career mid-way through, and hopefully get accepted into a nursing program before the age of 50! Hee... Either way, I keep pulling along... :yeah: I can't think about my age anymore, or the time frame, and which schools will accept me... I just focus on the now or I will get derailed pretty fast in my mind! You are young! No worries! Yet, I do remember when I was 25 years old and thought my life was passing me by... I laugh at that now...

I'm 31 and just finished half of my pre-reqs for the lpn program at my school.

Hi! I'm 27. Will turn 28 before starting the Fall 2013 nursing program. Your age is no big deal at all!! I've been reading this board for a while and there are so many ppl older than us changing careers. In fact, we're still very young. LOL

I finished college in 07 and then again in 09 (grad school) so it had been about 3 years since I had been in school. When I first walked into my A&P prerequisite, I asked myself "Do i really want to do this again?" As the prof went through the slides, it looked so overwhelming (and this coming from a previous bio major). Well, after a couple more classes and labs, I saw how easy it was to get back into the swing of things.

I've noticed that I've done better in school as I get older. Maybe it's because there are less distractions. If you go in thinking positively, you will do well....just don't go in with the mindset that you can't do it. :)

Happy New Year
