Any Nursing students for January '10 ?? Need some friends!

Published

Hi all! I love it here, just to let you know :redpinkhe. I am (hopefully) going to be starting LVN program in January (6 months YIPPEE!!) After a year of really hard work on prereqs and everything that goes along with applying! I have two school choices: Tyler County Hospital, Woodville Texas and Angelina College, Lufkin Texas. I would love to meet new friends that will be attending the same timeframe and program as me! I am sure most of us are nearing the "waiting" period for finding out if we made it in or not! Lets go through this stress together! My name is Beth by the way, four children, two boys, two girls, and one husband:yeah:all of which are happy that I am going to school. My husband just started his prereqs this summer to start LVN in January 2011! He wants to go for surgical nursing, I want to be right up in L&D since I kinda know a little about birthing babies:uhoh3:! Hope to meet some new friends!

I'm hoping hoping hoping to start in January 2010!! I won't find out until later October.

Good luck everyone :)

i'm hoping to land a spot for january '10, i will have to take a test in october, that's the hesi entrance exam, it's only 3 parts, math, reading, and vocabulary, and the math part it's just basic math, i think i'm just a little worried about the vocabulary, since i really don't know which words to exactly study for, but i'm feeling good about the test. good luck to all of y'all, and please please please, wish me luck:d

ohh-let's keep this thread going, and going, and going, and going. . .

I'm accepted to Toledo School of Practical Nursing in Toledo Ohio for the January 2010 LPN program.

Hopefully I will be one. I apply this fall so we will see. Good luck!

Well, hello honey!!! For all of you that don't know me I am Ray, Beth's husband!!! I am currently working on my pre-reqs to apply for the RN program in the Fall 2010.. It's nice having my wife Beth take some of the same classes as I am. Also she is already taken classes that I still have to take, so I can pick her brain for some insight. I hopefully will be in the RN program at Angelina College next fall. If everyone continues to work hard I think evryone will be fine!!! Nice meeting you all and keep up the good work.. To Beth my lovely wife , keep studying hard, I 'll be here to help you in whatever you need. Love Ray!!!!:redbeathe

Congrats! however you won't make much being LVN/LPN, many hospitals are either replacing with RN or just letting them go.

We all know LVNS/LPNS don't make as much as RNS. I beg to differ with you, why is it that there are always ads for hiring LVNS/LPNS. In my area doctor's offices would prefer to hire LVNS because they don't have to pay them as much as RNS. Besides my wife is going on to get her RN and BSN she just is getting her LVN first!!!!!!

Actually the person who gave you advise in terms of the LPN or LVN position was correct. I just completed my Nursing Program and we were informed by our faculty that eventually the position of LVN and LPN will be outphased. Further, they assume that after that will happen that even the 2 year RN programs (associates) as well will be gone. They explained to us that with the care becoming increasingly more challenging for the clients that people will be required to have a four year degree in order to care for them. However, there is nothing wrong with starting at that level and then progress through the chain, but it is something to definately keep in mind when you decide for yourself what route you wish to take.

The ANA (American Nurses Association) first proposed that LPNs/LVNs should be phased out of healthcare settings in 1965. 44 whopping years have elapsed since the ANA declared their position on the future of LPNs, but our numbers have only increased in the workforce.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch. . .

I will be graduating with an ADN degree in March 2010, so I have basically less than 8 months to go. I have been employed as an LVN since early 2006 and have learned plenty about workplace politics, family dynamics, and the fact that things cannot exactly be done strictly by the textbook.

I think it is still something to keep in mind. Our faculty was very specific about the programs and in Avidgolfer it does not seem to be a problem anyway, since he already stated that he and his wife will continue along the chain to the BSN. Further, healthcare has is evloving so insanely fast that it seems to make sense to me that they will collapse the different programs into one. Think about it, more sophisticated eqiupment will be used, more meds given...we have a huge amount of elderly coming in who will require a much greater amount of care. Yes, 1966 was a looong time ago, but look how fast things are evolving in terms of technical demands and just general care situations. Look around you and see how everything around is merged and how the Nclex every two years is increased in the degree of difficulty. Add all this into one pot and I would bet that eventually things will change. Just because they have not changed since 1966 should not pacify others into believing that it will never change. Therefore, if I were in the shoe's again I would work hard to at least continue to progress up the chain instead of standing still with a LPN/LVN if I think that their might even be a remote chance that I may loose my job. Anyhow, that really should be our goal anyway, regardless of what level of degree you have. I would hope that poeple would continue to learn and stay informed and not get content with what they know and think that is good enough.
