You can do it!
I went back to school when my son was a few months old. I started with one class, then two, and built up to full time. I went when my husband was home with our son (when I first went back, he was able to go in later so I could take early classes). It's a lot to balance the home, kid, school, marriage, but it CAN be done. I'm graduating in May with my BSN (and my son is now 5), and it's been a wild ride! The great thing is that my son LOVES hearing about my school stuff, and probably knows more about fetal development than most adults!
We held off on more kids until after nursing school, but finances were REALLY tight for us, since my husband lost his job along the way (not exactly responsible to have more kids under those circumstances).
There are people in my program with very young kids (one guy had a 5 week old when we started), so yes, it can be done, but it's definitely challenging.
I am doing it now. A husband of 12 years and 3 sons (17, 13, and 9). It is hard and a lot to balance and RunBabyRun mentioned but with hardwork, dedication and determination it can definitely be done.
My boys think its cool and with having one heading to college in the fall it is definitely motivating both of us. Find balance. A time when you can study and time to spend with family. But let them know that there are times when you won't be available.
I have a 2 year old son and have been working on my pre reqs since he was 9 months old. I just make sure I have a babysitter or family can watch him for whichever class times I'm enrolled in. You can most certainly do it! I have heard of some ladies that have had a baby during nursing school in the middle of a semester and still managed to make it. :)
I have a three year old son and I'm a pre-nursing student and will be starting the full time nursing program in July. I'm super nervous, but so far it has been okay. I took four classes and worked full time last semester and my husband and our family helped us a lot. However, I know when nursing hits full time it will be way more difficult. Lots of moms have done it before us, so it's definitely possible. Good luck!
Definitely! I attended Tulsa Community College for my prereqs and about half the class was working moms. There was one young woman who had a baby 2 weeks before starting our Physiology class! Don't know how she did it.
Make sure your husband and other friends and family provide time for you to study. I learned to put my class deadlines (tests, papers, etc.) on a family calendar in the kitchen. It was difficult to study at home because my husband or son would interrupt, so I learned to stay after class or get up really early before everyone else got up.
Also have people who will watch your child when he or she gets sick. It's inevitable that it will happen on a day you have a test or something important you can't miss.
I am a single mom with an 8 year old doing my prenursing right now. I will eventually get my bachelors. Just make sure you have lots of support from other people. I have lots of friends helping me and my ex has been fairly supportive. Last semester my son had mono and it took us two months to get diagnosed. He missed lots of school and I had to have back ups to help. He also does judo and we travel most weekends for it so I do a lot of my studying in a courtyard somewhere. I have a lot going on but with good time managemet and lots of support I get it done.
I've just started this week, so it's too early to say for me. I would second having a study plan and stick to it. I have two daughters, they are 8 and 6- in school all day. The challenge for me will be BIO 121 on Sunday. As the others have said, so many have succeeded before us. Best of luck!

I have 3 children 8,3 and 1. My husband is a police officer so he works odd hours. I took 15-19 credit hours at a time for pre-reqs and survived somehow with a high GPA. It's a huge sacrifice! I rarely sacrifice time with my family though I find other ways to make up for the time I need.

I also worked full time on weekends. I am not going to lie. It is tough, but it can be done!
I am doing it and I have 6 kids. My husband is very supportive and is pretty much Mr. Mom right now since I am also working. But I spend as much time with my kids as possible, I do feel guilty at times but I am doing this for them. They also encourage me when I feel like giving up. School is actually really hard for me too, so I really have to work hard, but I am doing it and you can definitely do it! :)

I'm enrolled to begin taking my pre-reqs and start working towards my Pre-Nursing degree this spring in Oklahoma. I also have a 1 year old daughter. I was just curious, is there any other moms that have worked towards there Pre-Nursing and then there bachelors degree while being a mom. My husband and I plan on also having another child sooner than later and just would like some insight on if any other moms have went through this and if it is possible to do.
