  1. I'm in the exact same boat except I'm an older student and have 6 children and a grand baby. I keep wondering the same thing. I'm a CNA now and I cannot make up my mind on which route I should go either. I do think the LVN to RN route would be best for me so I can start working as an LVN and getting experience and making money while working towards my RN. Although, I also think about doing all of the prereqs and nclex twice is it worth it? I don't know! I can't make up my mind since I'm already old lol
  2. I'm 37 years old and have 6 kids. I'm a CNA and I'm taking my prereqs for the LVN program. The negative thing about this school is that there is a waiting list, and I kept thinking by the time I get in, I will be around 40 years old, and that was making me discouraged. After reading these comments I am inspired and motivated to keep going. It's true age is just a number and we can achieve anything we put our minds to. I've always dreamed of being a Labor & Delivery Nurse and I'm going to do it no matter how old I will be when I finish.
  3. I start next week at my very first hospital job on the med surg unit. I'm so excited and nervous! I'll be working NOC shift. Does anybody know the basics for a night on the med surg floor as a PCT? What should I expect?
  4. This is the question I keep asking myself also. How am I going to work while I go to Nursing school? I have to work, my husband's job is not steady and I have 6 kids to take care of. But I'm already older (37 in September) and I feel like my time is running out. I have so much anxiety about wasting anymore time.
  5. I have chickened out of nursing school for a lot of years now because of fear of killing someone. Now I'm 36 years old and still trying to do it. I'm still nervous and debating on if I can do it or not. This post was perfect for me to read. I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this fear, but I thought to myself, if I'm so scared of it that means I will be way more cautious when I am dealing with meds because of that fear. I'm definitely not going to be too confident and just rush it. I'm going to take my time and make sure I'm giving the correct dosage and check it 3-4 times before I give it. I hope I can be successful as a Nurse.
  6. Thank you for guys the motivation! :)
  7. Hi, I was wondering what you guys think about doing an LVN/LPN program before doing the RN program? I am currently trying to get into the LVN program but I keep thinking of my age. My biggest dream is to be a Labor & Delivery Nurse or a Mid Wife. But by the time I would get up that far with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, I would be like almost 60 years old since I would have to do it very slowly having to pay for all my schooling myself. I used all my financial aid doing general ed classes in the past, and so now I am not eligible for anymore. What are your guys' opinions?
  8. I am doing it and I have 6 kids. My husband is very supportive and is pretty much Mr. Mom right now since I am also working. But I spend as much time with my kids as possible, I do feel guilty at times but I am doing this for them. They also encourage me when I feel like giving up. School is actually really hard for me too, so I really have to work hard, but I am doing it and you can definitely do it! :)
  9. Thank you so much for the article I printed it out and gonna use it. I am also going to get a voice recorder, I think that would help me out a lot. Good luck this coming up Semester! :)
  10. Yes, I agree study groups help me out A LOT! I do so much better when I can discuss the material work with other people on the subjects. Thank you!
  11. WOW that's very inspiring. So I guess it can be done. Thank you for your response and keep up the good work. I actually like to go to school and the library to study in peace and quiet and be away from the kids and rowdyness for awhile too.
  12. I'm currently taking Medical Terminology, Medical Math (prereqs for LVN) and will start an English and Sociology class on the 13th. Then my CNA class starts in March in the middle of the semester. I didn't want to take any Science or Math classes with this schedule since those classes would take all my time. Yes, I have been a student for awhile.
  13. Yes, thank you. I am doing this for my kids and also I love taking care of people when they are sick or hurt. I can't wait to become a Nurse and make a difference in people's lives. :)
  14. Thank you everyone for your replies. I think I'm gonna go for it and see what happens. :)
  15. Thank you everyone for the advice and replies. I think I will be able to do it. I'm going to try my hardest at least. Good luck to all of you in this upcoming semester. :)
