Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Good morning to you all. I just spoke to an advisor from the Nursing Department and she said once again applications have not been reviewed and it should start happening sometime next week. From here on we just need to sit and wait it out for another 5 weeks or so because the more we call and get very different answers the more we will be overwhelmed with frustration. Have a wonderful and productive day and weekend ahead.:tinkbll:

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and like most of you I am hoping to get accepted to the generic program for the spring 2010. I called the school today and they told me that they havent processed any applications yet, and that they dont have a cut off yet! I am so anxious!! I just hope that they let us know soon!! till then I will have my fingers crossed.:D

Nub he he he just kidding well welcome most of us here are anxiety veterans... so ur in good company but let me warn you that ur huge smiley face will turn to the one that looks like it's going crazy (why else do u think they have it as an option). What am trying to say is don't worry we all go thru that anxiety and mail man stocking but after the first time it get much more relaxed. (Hope its only takes one time for u) well have a great day...

olofin, did she say it was definitively a 3.8? still confused on that score  what did she say when you told her your gpa; i mean don't you have a 3.75?? thats pretty close

Well she didn't sound to happy about it when I told her what my GPA was but she told me that it seems that this time around it will be almost the same cut off. (I am still surprise that they transfer me to a adviser) They usually cut you on the first person you talk too. I don't know why she will told me something like that for no reason. any way let's keep the faith. I have a friend that works in the operating room at my job and he told me he apply like 6 times until he got lucky, he had a 3.4 GPA and he is doing the last semester this fall.:nurse: I have to wait I can't afford a more expensive university in top that I have to stop working the classes are very expensive.:smackingf

hey if we dont get accepted for Spring.. the next time around is fall right.. theres no summer ? :( well.. lets hope for the best still until they send out either letter.

OLOFIN: how did she sound sad? she said explicitly that it was CLOSE to a 3.8? or that it "looked like the same gpa" big difference there... and if its close to, I don't get why she'd sound sad.. a 3.75 is pretty damn close. wanna know the details please! then not going on this forum anymore.. seems like everything else is just stuff they tell people for whatever reason so they'll stop calling.

Aca09: How many times have you applied? I noticed that you mentioned "after the first time it get much more relaxed."? I am feeling so anxious it isnt even funny!! I am expecting letters from a few different places, but Mdc is where I really want to go since it is so much cheaper and it isnt as far as other places. is Mdc the only place you applied to?

Well not to happy like, I feel sorry for you but I don't think you will get in this time around either, But I understand what you said, they tell you a bunch of crap every time you call, so you don't really know what is true and what is not true. The only difference with this phone call is that I was actually transfer to an adviser, usually you call and they tell you they are all the adviser are busy or the applications have not been review yet. I am hopping for a mistake and maybe she is just not that well inform, believed me I really what to get in I been waiting since September last year I already got rejected two times, I hope the third one is the lucky one. But my advised to you is be positive even if you see that all the doors are closing on you, if you really want this you will get it. For me the main reason I keep on waiting is because I can't afford no other university but maybe you can apply some were else besides mdc. But I am sure you will be in this time, be positive:loveya:

thanks olofin: so she said it looked like the same cut or that it was "close to?" meaning less?????.... cuz people reject seats all the time, so I imagine, if people, reject, then we'd have an ok chance of getting in second round y'know??

considering a 3.7 last time put people on some sort of alternate list that they took forever to send letters too. I have the same gpa as you olofin so lets hope we both get in.. i too can't afford anything else =/

I talked with advising last week and is it true that they go by Cumulative GPA instead of Program GPA?

I have a 3.73 in the first and 3.84 in the Science Program GPA...then again, I have like 93 Credits...why would they look at cumulative GPA if you have many courses in there that are not science related and not relevant for the program?

I APPLY FOR BCC THEY ONLY COUNT THE GPA FOR THE NURSING PRE-REQ A&P 1 AND 2 WITH THE LABS ENC 1101 AND CHEMISTRY, THEY ALSO REQUIRED A CLASS CALL HCP0130 OR THEY GIVE YOU A WAIVER IF YOU WORK IN A HOSPITAL AND PREFORM DIRECT PATIENT CARE OF HAVE A LICENSE IN SOME MEDICAL PROFESSION. they GO BY POINTS AND IF YOU ARE A BROWARD RESIDENCE THEY GIVE YOU AN EXTRA POINT. I AM WAITING FOR AN ANSWER ON THEM TO LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS:eek:
