Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

I have an AA and a BA also and they just gave me credit for taking the pre req's but they counted my sciences that I just took last yr and this yr ............ANy other rejection letters out there ?

I have an AA from Dade and a BA from FIU

MDC told me that they are going to look at my full GPA and classes on my transcript. because, i went to DADE so they are going to use all my classes.. they are not focusing on just my science and math.

She said if i never attended dade and i only took my science at dade, then they will look at only my science from dade because that will have been all the classes that i have taken there

Then they would pull the other classes like math Natural scienced thats needed..

So basically she said because i was astudent there.. full GPA will be looked at

someone who just started and cam in with everything wont have a GP with them, so they will go with what they have

Yeah, that's exactly what hurt me. Those theater classes from the 90's are my only B's at Miami Dade...and I got A's in all my math and science classes at FSU. If they had only looked at relevant coursework from Miami Dade, rather than total GPA, I would have been able to apply with a 4.0.

Too bad.

Hi everyone, good luck in getting into the program!!! :) Today was my first day in mdc. I want to get into the Generic RN track, maybe full time. Did anyone take MAC 1105 or microbiology as a prereq? Do you have to or would you suggest it?

Hi !

If you are still interested; there are good professor at Baptist hospitals for MCB 2010, also good MAC at west campus.

Good luck!

Well i just found out i got accepted into the accelerated program on Friday the 31st, i gave up hope after i received the rejection letter for the generic full-time, the week before. I've missed the orientation, registration, etc., but im still extremely excited, ill be at MDC on Monday morning i think they open at 9a, i'll be there trying to get everything done...

I read some where that i have to take a CPR class, what if im already CPR certified????

If you have your CPR just make sure that you do not have it expired before your program ends. Make sure that it is valid while you are taking classes! And congratulations! You know what they say...better late then never. On a lighter note you still have a whole month to finish up everything. You will be busy until you finish the program so enjoy every minute of your free time.

Thanks for the info, well i guess that means i have to redo it because its valid until Feb. 2010

EDIT: Well let me correct that my Advanced 1st Aide ends i April 2011 and my AED Card expires April 2010

what was your gpa? for dade????

4.0 thats why i was so surprised that i hadnt heard from them

RMO1809, almost the same happened to me, I was #101, and they accepted 98, I was very surprised because I was a 3.79, so I continued with my application to FIU, I was easily accepted there. When I had already paid $200 to save my seat at FIU, I received my acceptance letter from MDC (on July 5th). Well, I lost at total like $300 applying to FIU, but I am still happy bacause MDC is the place where I want to study. I'm sure you were accepted, too. please let us know how finally You did it, and in which campus you will study? I will go to Homestead campus, probably you too, GOOD LUCK

Hey Charlyn I was accepted to the part time generic over at the medical center campus..... It's mu h closer to my house. Wow I can't beleive you ended up having to lose all that money it's incredible that they do not at least send a standby notice or something. Well I'm glad at least you were able to get into the school of your choice. I wish you the best of luck!!

I went to ask for my ranking....I was #225 for accelerated and they stopped at #99. For generic I was # 78 and they stopped at #44.

Well those numbers were probably for the 1st round. I have a 3.79gpa,and in the first round for the Generic program I was not accepted because I was #101 in the ranking, and they accepted 98 students. However, in the 1st week of July, I received the acceptance letter, and I have a friend that was accepted with 3.78gpa.
