I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.
Thanks for your interest!
do you have to take the CPR class prior to the program?
If I'm not mistaking; yes you do, it will need to be done in addition to the immunization and drug testing etc.. You will see when you get your packet. I'm just going by what other friends told me who are already in program, but to each is own.....If you decide to take it make sure you take the one that is for healthcare providers.
Yes, you need to take it, because you will need it in order to attend clinicals. You could take the class now, I guess to get it out of the way, because there are a lot of things you have to do in a short amount of time (immunizations, drug testing...) before you get started in the program. But, you might also want to wait until you get accepted. You don't want to end up taking if for nothing, in case you don't. Hopefully, that won't be the case though, and you will all get accepted. Good luck!
Hey ymarti, thanks we need someone who is familiar with the program to stay up on this thread. If you don't mind me asking, do you think the new schedule is posted up stairs in the nursing department yet, b/c I know when I went there last semester they usually have them up on the wall? Also, do you know if accelerated is offered to participate in Jackson Scholars? I know you know your stuff!
Yes, the summer schedule is posted up in the nursing dept. Unfortunately, the Jackson Scholars program is not for the accelerated option. But it doesn't really matter at this point, because the Jackson Scholars program has been suspended for the time being and they are no longer offering it to any new incoming students. This is because of decreased donations & cutbacks at Jackson due to the bad economy. I don't know if Baptist Scholars is still accepting new students, however.
Ymarti: Wow, what a disappointment. That is the hospital that I wanted to work for. Have you already graduated? Were you in the accelerated option? I had a question earlier in the post regarding graduation. There appears to only be one graduation a year, so for the accelerated, that either means we walk the summer before we graduate or we have to wait until the following year after we are done with our classes. Do you know which one it is?

Well thanks for the Info.....I knew the amount of ppl they accepted into the part time program was low. As I see so is my GPA from what you have told me. Guess I better start preparing for Plan B. I can't believe they are doing this to us.......and making us wait this long. Thanks AGAIN !!!!!!! We love information on this blog good or bad :)
