Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

hello everyone,

i am also stressing over the mail box... but i called yesterday and spoke to an advisor said they still haven't received the letter with all the people that got accepted... which is a bit refreshing since i have heard the "we haven't made the selection" around 20 times :]...well am going for the accelerated option and i was also happy to hear that there are 50 spots instead of the 40 i was told... so i hope to see you all very soon in orientation..

Do u know how many they take for PART TIME i am at my wits end !!!!!!!!!

no sorry but belive me i feel you pain... :1

is the advisor also the one that told you 50 spots instead of 40? if so this is excellent and it could mean that they had 40 4.0's, i don't want to speculate!!!! so all the advisors get a list with everyones name who got accepted? i've never heard this before, that's great.

no i highly doubt there was 40 4.0s.. i even asked if that has or has ever happened.. i don’t have a 4.0 so am hoping that’s not the case. anyway am not sure how the advising thing works but that’s what he told me. he did tell me that it was competitive and that i did have a good chance but he does not know if my gpa made the cut so i guess all we could do is pray and wait :]

Let's say this if you have a GPA that makes the cut but they can't quite make a choice because it's a tie between u and someone else what else do they take into account?? County of residence? Courses Completed?

no idea... maybe alphabetical order he he he!!!!

That would be nice in some instances......Come on PPL :banghead:

They dont know what they are doing to us................

don't stress so much, i know it's killing me to but we'll have enough to stress over when we make it in :]

I have asked this same question, which is why I said there may have been 40 4.0's b/c if they have a bulk of the highest GPA, then they have to accept everyone, and when aca09 said that they added 10 more slots, that makes me feel that they are adding opportunity for 10 more people with a less gpa. If you don't mind me asking, what are your GPA's guys? Has everyone finished all of your prereqs? Don't get discouraged, remember there were record numbers of applications this year. People realize that nursing is probably one of the only careers available right now. But to answer your question, I highly doubt they would go by county of residence b/c they will have lots of angry applicants. They should, but probably won't choose from courses completed, reason being is they told people they could apply w/ courses pending, so that would be dishonest and misleading.

P.S. This is Miami Dade, ABSOLUTELY UNPREDICTABLE!!!

Hi guys, I;ve been following your discussion for a couple of days and boy has it been interesting. I am also an MDC nursing program hopefull who also shares your furstrations. I dont think I've been this anxious since my last son was born about a year ago. I have a 3.75 GPA and hope to get into the part-time program since I have to work mornings. The advisor had told me that there were only 50 spots available per year and that last year the lowest GPA chosen for the Part time was a 3.78..... So you can see I too am a little worried....

hey i applied for fall now for the accelerated program. I completed all my courses and i have a 4.0, but i have not heard anything yet. I called yesterday and they told me that orientation is july 17 and that the acceptance letters will be out for the first week of july. That is all i know told to me from an advisor. He also told me that the first day of class is august 28.

I will keep updating if i hear anything :D
