Any MA students?

I'm going to be applying to an MA program and would love to chat with any current MA students. Looks like there are mostly CNAs only, though :/

I was a medical assistant. I just graduated last month and now I just got accepted into the LPN program. :)

If you have any questions about MA let me know.

I'm an MA grad '11 and I'm currently a Registered MA working on my pre reqs for BSN. I took the MA program @ Remington College in Little Rock, but it was a combined program that also included EKG and X-Ray (limited scope). Feel free to hit me up with any questions as well :-)

I totally have questions for both of you! Did you plan to eventually go the LPN or BSN route or were you dissatisfied with working as an MA? What is the homework load like?

I am making my way toward BSN right now. Several pre reqs to go before I can apply.

MA is medical assistant in the US. It sounds like you are working on a graduate degree of Master of Arts in Nursing, which is a degree not offered in the US/CAN. US has the MSN (Masters of Science in Nursing) I believe MAN is unique to the Philippines.

This is a description of a MA for the purposes of this forum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_assistant. "Medical assistants is a non-licensed allied health occupation who perform administrative and/or clinical tasks to support the work of physicians and other health professionals.[1][2] They perform routine tasks and procedures such as measuring patients' vital signs, administering medications and injections, recording information in medical records-keeping systems, preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies, and collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing,

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

I completed a MA (medical assisting) program at a trade school back in 2000 when I was 19 years old. However, I never was able to land a job with my MA training, so I pursued nursing instead. I earned my LPN/LVN license in 2006 and the RN license in 2010.

I graduated medical assisting school last year. I'm currently in a LVN program. My ultimate goal is RN but I wanted to be able to work while going to school. I'm so glad I went this route I have a great job as a ma and I am able to work weekends and get paid really well.

It's a beautiful day to save lives.

Thank you for this! I'm so worried that I'll regret going the MA route and wish I went for nursing, but you made a great point about having a good job while going to school.

That is exactly why I am in college going for the BSN. I did grad from an accredited MA program that also included x-ray (limited scope), and EKG. That was in 2011. Before that I had plenty of experience as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy, I just needed to complete the MA deal to apply to test to get certified (I did through American Medical Technologists (AMT). Still having issues securing a decent job. Frustrated, I enrolled into a university this past winter, and I have just completed my fist semester of pre reqs with several to follow. I'm just annoyed that I have an insane amount of experience, including doing IV's and... Nothing.

Oh! I'm also a whiz in front office / medical practice administration. With additonal experience in ER and ICU - and I'm working at a shoe store!! Minimum wage! I'm just thankful I can afford gas at this point.:(
