Hi all!
I'm new to the allnurses.com site and am so impressed at the wealth of information available on here. Kudos to everyone who participates and posts- sharing your knowledge is so valuable, especially to newbies like me! So, I wanted to start a roll call for Jan 2010 UIC GEP applicants on here.
Yes, it may be a little early considering applications aren't due until March 2009, but I'm super excited (and terrified). I'd love the opportunity to commiserate with some fellow students over the intimidating application process. I just started studying for the GRE and am feeling like I need to go back to the second grade to re-learn basic math!! Did anyone else have this same experience?
I'm 26, work full time in a completely non-health care field, graduated with a degree in Philosophy and pre-med emphasis (don't worry, I came to my senses right out of college and decided med school is not the most effective way (for me) to make a difference!). Most of my pre-reqs are done, except for A&P II and the Research Methods course. I'm having trouble getting letters of reccommendation, shadowing a NP, and studying the GRE (test anxiety...yuck!). Hope to hear from you guys!
OK, now that I've notified my fiance I can give the full story...
I called the main number for the behavioral health sciences department this morning and left a message saying that I hadn't heard anything yet about my application. This department includes acute care/adult/geriatric, so no, I still don't know anything about FNP, sorry KrindyK. Anyway, Jean Berry got my message and called me back just now saying that BHS had set a different deadline than the other departments, apparently there was some miscommunication about when applicants were to be notified. She said they have finished going through the applications and have already sent out rejection emails, and that the remaining applicants should be notified today that they are invited to interview on April 13th between 1:00 and 3:00. She couldn't remember exactly how many people would be interviewed.
So, that's the update from BHS. I'm still holding my breath until I get the actual interview invitation, though - this process has been way too stressful!

Great news!!! I just got a call back from Jean Barry (sp?) in the BHS department, and anybody who hasn't heard anything yet from acute/adult/geriatrics has been chosen to interview on April 13!
We should be getting an email this afternoon... yippee!!!
