Hi all!
I'm new to the allnurses.com site and am so impressed at the wealth of information available on here. Kudos to everyone who participates and posts- sharing your knowledge is so valuable, especially to newbies like me! So, I wanted to start a roll call for Jan 2010 UIC GEP applicants on here.
Yes, it may be a little early considering applications aren't due until March 2009, but I'm super excited (and terrified). I'd love the opportunity to commiserate with some fellow students over the intimidating application process. I just started studying for the GRE and am feeling like I need to go back to the second grade to re-learn basic math!! Did anyone else have this same experience?
I'm 26, work full time in a completely non-health care field, graduated with a degree in Philosophy and pre-med emphasis (don't worry, I came to my senses right out of college and decided med school is not the most effective way (for me) to make a difference!). Most of my pre-reqs are done, except for A&P II and the Research Methods course. I'm having trouble getting letters of reccommendation, shadowing a NP, and studying the GRE (test anxiety...yuck!). Hope to hear from you guys!
Ha, yeah :) I was debating with another girl in my anatomy class whether we should wear suits! I always think it's better to be over dressed than under, but then I always feel so silly when I am I will also have to start researching interview pointers, does anyone know what the format will be? or how many people are interviewed?
I don't know what the format will be - I hope it isn't a group interview. Those can be so intimidating!
Ast8 is A&P the only class you are taking? I'm in the second half of A&P II as well, but I still have to take the research methods course. None of the schools near me offer Research Methods, so I may have to take the expensive online one.
I hope not too! I get self conscious in interview situations as is, a crowd of spectators might just push me over the edge It annoys me too, because it really is irrational. Let's all just try to remember to be ourselves and I think we'll be fine. I think you run into problems when you try to reach to figure out what they want. It's also about what you want. You won't thrive in a program that doesn't want you for who you are.
I'm in A&P II and an online Child Psychology class. I just realized that I actually have an A&P test after the interview! I am sorry to hear about the Research Methods, I feel you. I wish more schools offered it. I am not sure if I will need it or not. I talked to someone at UIC that said my biology research experience would probably exempt me from the requirement, but I haven't gotten a definitive answer on it.
Thanks again :) That's not too big of a group, so that's good. Has anyone gone to interviews for other nursing programs before? I wish this wasn't my first one. When I applied to grad. school for biology my first interview was with my most competitive program and while I still got in, the other interviews that followed were a lot easier having had the experience before.
I applied to adult/geriatric and was informed last night by email that I was invited for an interview on April 13th. I don't know whether the acute care folks were included on the email or not. Have a look back at the posts from yesterday where I posted information that I received from BHS.
Did anyone else who applied to acute care get their interview email last night? I know ast8, ncol, and weezbug123 all got interviews, but I can't remember what specialties they applied to.
