Any Jan 2010 UIC GEP Applicants Out There?

Published

Hi all!

I'm new to the allnurses.com site and am so impressed at the wealth of information available on here. Kudos to everyone who participates and posts- sharing your knowledge is so valuable, especially to newbies like me! So, I wanted to start a roll call for Jan 2010 UIC GEP applicants on here.

Yes, it may be a little early considering applications aren't due until March 2009, but I'm super excited (and terrified). I'd love the opportunity to commiserate with some fellow students over the intimidating application process. I just started studying for the GRE and am feeling like I need to go back to the second grade to re-learn basic math!! Did anyone else have this same experience?

I'm 26, work full time in a completely non-health care field, graduated with a degree in Philosophy and pre-med emphasis (don't worry, I came to my senses right out of college and decided med school is not the most effective way (for me) to make a difference!). Most of my pre-reqs are done, except for A&P II and the Research Methods course. I'm having trouble getting letters of reccommendation, shadowing a NP, and studying the GRE (test anxiety...yuck!). Hope to hear from you guys!

Just checking in - anyone else hear about interviews? I guess today is the last day for them to contact us, unless they are pushing back the deadline. The suspense is driving me up the wall, and I know I just need to be patient! Yarg!

It probably doesn't help that my fiance and I are also waiting in suspense to find out if our offer on a house has been accepted! It's a double whammy of waiting for us, and I just needed to vent!

Nope, I still haven't heard anything from UIC. I've made peace with the fact that I didn't get in but I hope they'll send out rejection emails soon so we can have a definite answer. For those who weren't accepted, what are your plans now?

Well, it may not be over yet - no one, at least on this site, that applied to acute/adult/geriatrics has gotten an interview request. I think just the midwifes and a few other specialties. Maybe, they are just running behind on our group? Gotta stay positive, right!

FYI guys - I just sent an email to Chris Ocampo asking if he knew what the status was, but he's out of the office until Monday. Now my positive attitude is starting to wane a bit.

That's strange - I assumed that Chris Ocampo would be the person sending out rejection emails today. I guess that mean the faculty will be responsible for notifying us instead?

I applied to the FNP program and have not heard anything yet. I, too, called Chris OCampo and got a voice message that said he would be out until Monday. I saw that one person got an interview request from FNP - any others out there???

Anyone else feeling somewhat disgruntled?

Yes, I am a little upset as well. I do not understand how the office can be closed, or the people in charge of the program can be off until Monday when so many students were waiting for today to come.

But, I guess they must have gotten a crazy amount of applications, and that's why they are running behind. It's just the way of applying for schools! Waiting, waiting, waiting....

I do find it a bit mystifying why they would make a point of saying we would hear either way by today and then not doing it, nor giving an update. I wouldn't have held out hope quite as long had they not said that... ya know?

I completely agree! I'm going to go nut waiting through another weekend!

If they are that swamped with applications, you would think they would all be in the office trying to process them - not MIA...
