Just found out Tuesday I am starting Nursing School in January at GCC. I have been going there for 3 years getting my pre req's out of the way and finally starting Nursing School. How do we find out our class schedule?
Never too early to find study groups
im full time :)
Holy cow your in Queen Creek? Are you going to commute? I used to live in Gilbert so I know how far of a drive you have... I live in Glendale (DeerValley) so I'm fortunate to have a 5 mile drive to school...
Question the district should ponder: with the pollution problems shouldnt they try to put people in schools closer to them?? All they talk about is carpooling but there are so many people scattered all over that it seems impossible...
They should figure out a way in the computer system for it to place people within the two or three closest schools to them unless otherwise chosen you know??? what a waste of GAS, TIME, and what about AIR QUALITY..... GRRR
Hi Kelden, I wish we could carpool!!! I'm regretting that drive too. I found a GREAT wheely backpack at Costco. It's by Swiss Army and has lots of compartments (one for books, one for notebooks, one for steth etc) and is only $69. It also comes with a smaller detachable pack that I plan on using for clinicals. There should be plenty there, I just bought one last week.
Italian- I wish I could've been placed closer but GCC is the only school with the weekend program. I'm not sure why Kelden chose it, but for me it was because I KNOW I'll have to be at school on Fri/Sat, instead of 6 weeks of MTW, then five weeks of Thurs, throw in a Fri here and there, etc with the traditional programs, ugghhhh!! How do they expect parents to be able to do that schedule?? I have a friend who is really lucky, her dad lives a block away from her, is retired, and watches her kids whenever she needs him to, so she can be really flexible with school. My dh works 70-80 hours a week so I don't have him to rely on, it stinks!! I wish I could hook up with another Gilbert person going to Glendale to carpool. Actually I've been PM'ing someone who is going to apply for their p/t fall program and she lives a block away from me!! I just hope she gets in so we can commute together. I went on another thread about what you need for NS and one poster suggested taping the lectures and listening to them as you drive home! What a fantastic idea!!!! Since I'll be in the car at least two hours a day when I have school, I'll just spend the time listening to the lecture and 'studying' that way!! I'm getting really excited, I start the math class tomorrow!!! And then orientation and school NEXT WEEEEEKKKK!!!!!!

I passed NCLEX-RN yesterday with the minimum number of questions (75)
Here's some tips for you from a new grad.......
1. Never quit school. Yeah, it's tough. Yeah, your whole life is nursing school. But IT WILL PAY OFF!
2. Never pay money to Pearson (the NCLEX givers) to view results early. The state board of nursing has your results the NEXT DAY for FREE!
3. Don't take NCLEX on a Friday......you will have to agonize the whole weekend before you get the results
4. Time goes FAST in nursing school, before you know it you will be done. Do NOT give up!
5. If I can do this, you can do this! Heck, I am 50 years old now!
:Melody: GO TEAM GLENDALE :Melody:
and PS - take NCLEX ASAP after you graduate. The longer you wait, the more you forget! Saunders study guide is THE BEST. If you don't have it now then buy it. Use it to study for tests through school and then you will be mostly tuned up to go straight to NCLEX!
Congratulations Lu ann! You've worked hard for this! :balloons:Thanks for the advice! As excited and happy as I am to finally be starting the program, I'm still a little scared about what lies ahead!
Thanks :)
Don't be scared; it's nothing to be scared about. I actually liked nursing school but I didn't like some of the politics that go along with it.
Good luck
Luann!!!!!:balloons: :beercuphe  :yelclap: :flowersfo :w00t:
Yeah for you!! I am soooooo jealous! Thank you for the encouragement. I want to quit everyday and even now have no idea why I keep doing this to myself, LOL. I am starting semester 2 though. Want to do that atleast for my LPN. Every semester I tell myself some other reason to stay in, hopefully that will continue until it is all over and I have my RN!!!:rotfl:
Thank you for all your help! Guess we will be seeing you post now in the "New Nurse" forums!!! Good Luck at your new job!!!:)
I'm not looking forward to the commute either, but I've done worse. I has GCC as my last choice. I already waited 2 semesters, so I figured if I at least get in, then I can worry about a transfer. I'm hoping to talk to someone today after orientation to see how to go about putting in for a transfer. I did a test drive out to the school last week and it's really not that bad. 54 miles/one way. My husband used to drive it everyday for work. I only have to do it 3 days a week. I got my clinicals at MMC, so it is not as far.
Maybe I'll meet you today. I'm gonna look for Keli. when I get there.
See you around.
Kelly

ItalianRN, I found the Psych book, but just recently. So I'm sure the bookstore has it by now.
Are you in the full or part time program?
I'm in the full time.
