Any Fall 2008 UCLA - MECN Program Applicants out there?

Published

Are any of you starting to get anxious about the forthcoming decisions? We have another month or so yet to know, but I still want to know NOW! :innerconf ... Wanna share in the waiting process? Have you heard anything about the # of people they are accepting? Anything?

I also got my acceptance packet today! :D Like sunshineseas says it's a large non-descript manila colored envelope. My heart sank when I opened the mail box and found nothing and then when I looked across the ledge of the mailboxes I saw a packet with my name on it. I almost missed it! Inside it is a white UCLA folder with the acceptance letter and materials on financial aid and the nursing school curriculum booklet/overview. It says in the letter that we must let Shelli know of our decision to enroll for fall by April 4th. I live near UCLA campus too, just about half a mile away so I think you guys will receive yours by tomorrow, will keep my fingers crossed for you all. It has been a long journey for all of us...

I hope to connect with those that were accepted too!:yeah:

Congratulations to you too BerryGood!!! :yeah::lol2::nurse:

I hope to meet you at UCLA this fall. However, this isn't looking good. It would make sense that the acceptance letters would be the first to be sent out. The fact that you live near UCLA doesn't mean anything to me. I live in Irvine, but first-class mail always gets from LA to OC the next day. I'm thinking about calling into work sick tomorrow and sitting by the mailbox.

Kathliz, LOL, your insanity is too much. Don't worry, take a deep breath and just go to work and when you get home there will be a nice manila envelope waiting for you too.

BTW, I checked on the Grad Div website and my status currently still says that the grad div has not made a decision on my application, so I'm awaiting the official word from them since the nursing school can only "recommend" me to be accepted into graduate school.

Will you be applying to CSU Dominguez Hills either? They have the MEPN program and apps are due 3/31. Dominguez Hills is in South LA.

Congratulations to all accepted. I have my fingers crossed for you Kathliz. I have sort of resigned myself to a rejection letter at this point- hope for the best but expect the worst. I live in Westwood so I should have received something by now.

It is really weird- when I went to the student affairs window Monday, someone behind the counter actually asked me if I was so-and-so (keeping my ID anonymous here) and I replied "yes". So I guess either I have been a collossal pest or there is something that made my application stand out. Just adds to the confusion.

The process can be rather cruel. Why has such a program become so competitive? I actually was accepted to several medical schools 15 years ago but my life took a different path with personal issues and caregiving of elderly parents. So I did not pursue it. Perhaps the committee was not convinced of my dedication- who knows.

I wish all the best to entering UCLA MECN students and to all who will be embarking on a career in nursing.

Odamae, don't dwell on receiving a rejection letter. A few of us are receiving letters. If you think this program is cruel, see the UCSF post. I think their program has a lot more going on there than here. People with stellar GRE and GPAs are being turned away at UCSF.

Do this for me - don't think of that rejection letter too much. :nono:

Congratulations to all who got in, and my fingers are crossed for all who are still waiting! I got my acceptance letter last night, but I live in W. LA. My status was NOT updated on the website, so all day yesterday I had resigned myself to rejection. Anyway, point is, don't base any judgement on the "decision status" section of the website.

Good luck, I'm rooting for you.

I won't dwell on a rejection- just trying to be realistic. Thanks.

UCLA Nursing 08- I just took a peek at what is going on over at the UCSF thread and I see what you mean. Lots of angst just like here with some hearing and others still waiting to hear. Sorry for the whining- it is sort of part of my genome :). Still hoping for good news but will know better next time if I need to reapply- will send out more than just one app.

Odamae, I understand how you feel. People tell me that I'm a pessimist and sometimes a cynic, but I consider myself a realist. It looks like four of us haven't heard anything yet and four or five heard yesterday that they were accepted. It would make sense that they would notify the accepted people first. If I don't hear anything today that will be very bad news. I have already been turned down by USD and Western. However, I have an interview with CSU Fullerton in two weeks. CSUF and UCLA are my only remaining MSN programs. I also applied to CSUN's Accelerated BSN program. If I get turned down by UCLA I will immediately send apps to CSU San Marcos and National University's accelerated BSN programs. Unlike most of you I am too old to wait around another year to apply or rot on a CC's waiting list for 2-3 years. I have to start school NOW and I need to be in a degreed program. I need to get my career on a fast track. You mentioned that you were once accepted to medical school. Have you considered reapplying.

Kathy

i didn't get anything in the mail today. i live in the bay area and i thought i would have received something by now... i think this is a sign that i'll have to look for a small rejection envelope tomorrow

oh my gosh, i got on the waitlist. honestly, this is about as much as i expected. my number is somewhat high, so i am definitely hopeful!! i left a message for shelli asking how many people were actually accepted out of the 55 spots, to get a better feel for where i stand. anyways, the letter came in a tiny envelope so my heart had already sank...at least this is SOMETHING. (i don't know whether to put a sad or smiley face, so i'll stick with :stone)

Hi Kathy,

You echo my sentiments. I too am an older applicant (perhaps that is why I was recognized when I went to the admissions window on Tuesday). I haven't really developed a Plan B yet. Let's see what the rest of the week brings- it sounds like you have other irons in the fire which is very wise.

I am glad this forum exists- I would be going crazy if I did not have others to commisserate with.

Your friend,

Oda Mae

Hmmmm- perhaps the acceptances went out Tuesday (or earlier), waitlist Wednesday and rejections today? That is good at least you know your standing on the waitlist. That was not the case with medical school- I was completely in the dark until I got an acceptance. And the admissions office would not reveal waitlist spot or chances of getting in. Hopefully Shelli will give you some idea as to your chances.
