Any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 Applicants out there?

Published

Hi y'all

Just wanted to see if there are any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 applicants out there who would like to join me in the wait. Does anyone know if interviews are finished? I had mine on April 10th. Does anyone know how accurate the school is with their first week of June deadline of notification? Hope to hear from somebody:wink2:

3 Valley girls heading down to DH! :) Jess08, I know what you mean about thinking about moving. I'm stuck with the commute b/c my husband wouldn't want to move (although the beach areas sound dreamy!). Thanks for sharing what you know about where we are and when. I think what you said sounds right. I thought I heard something about the VA hospital as an option for certain clinicals, but maybe that was just something I had hoped.

Do any of you know where I might get a Micro class? Sad to admit, but I didn't think I was getting in, so I dropped one that started earlier and enrolled in a Chem class. Bad move! Thanks if you know of one!

Let's definitely try to find a time to meet up!

The VA was definitely mentioned by Jorge at my orientation. Hopefully that won't change. There is mention in the papers we were given about Kaiser "WestLA/Sunset" for clinicals---that might also be a close drive for the 3 of us. If it looks doable, I am open to carpooling (and have a Prius with stickers). I'm also hoping that the csudh sim lab is still happening--has anyone heard?

I assume no one has gotten an email from Jorge yet with our next steps?

Hi everyone,

Damn, from reading all the comments it seems that I have been gone for centuries!!! I have decided to go to CSUDH because of MANY factors. I am SUPER excited that I have met you guys on this website and would love to meet all of you beforehand!!! I live in the Orange County area, and have decided that I will try to move to the Southbay area to make it easier for me (Torrance or Long Beach because it's much safer than Carson). sidenote: just last week after I got my acceptance letter, some guy got shot at the McDonald's right across the street from the school, so it has my parents terrified.

Jorge is supposed to mail us a Clinical Handbook, but if you go to the MEPN website last year's handbook is already posted. The last page is a spreadsheet outlining the immunizations and certifications you must have before Aug 1. If you don't have your BLS-CPR certification, I highly recomment Pro-CPR in LB. I got it done in less than 3.5 hours, and for, I think, $40, which is much cheaper than many other places. I think the 2 other certifications needed are quizes we take online. We can discuss it more if you want..

By the way everyone, my name is Marie. Do you have myspace's?? I know it's corny but it's a good way to get a general sense of everyone. . well mine is myspace.com/hailmarie

Hope to talk to you soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:specs:

Hey all,

I wanted to introduce myself since it looks like we'll be classmates in the fall. I stumbled upon this thread while I was looking up ways on how I'm going to afford this program. I just received Jorge's e-mail this evening. Has anyone received their official acceptance letter from admissions and records?

Deni-during my interview I asked Professor Welch about the sim lab. She mentioned it was still under construction and would probably be ready by our second semester. I actually applied for CSU Fullerton's EL-MSN program as well, and during my interview they gave us a tour of the lab. Jorge was there with some DH nursing students so it looks like we may be using the Fullerton sim lab during the first semester.

hello cod3emt,

that would be SO awesome if we use CSUF's sim's lab; i also interviewed for that program, and the lab looks awesome! plus that's my alma mater..

anywho, nice to meet you. i did not get the official acceptance letter from the university, and it still does not have my "accepted" states under my.csudh, but i called the actual admissions and records and they said i got my acceptance (from the university) last week as well, so you should try and call.

Admissions this morning said the letters (including usernames) should be on their way. And if anyone has any specific questions about the program, I will be phoning my contact, who just graduated, this weekend.

Hi all~ long time! I actually ended up hearing from CSUDH on Monday! NOT "by the end of this week" as Jorge had told me two weeks ago!! Seems like I was waiting forever!! I know its not his fault tho, it is a grueling process...

Woww~ so it looks like we are ALL in :) yay!!

I'm super excited to meet all of u guys! It looks like most of u are from the valley! I'm from San Gabriel... which is about 25 miles from CSUDH. So I'm also looking into moving closer to school... but I'm not 100% yet. It all depends on how often we are on campus. If its only 1-2 days... I dont know if the extra $$$ is worth it to rent out there; on the other hand with gas prices the way they are and traffic on the 605/91 fwys... if we're on campus 4-5 days/wk I think its a good investment to move.

deni_in_la: if at all possible when you speak to your contact this weekend do you mind asking him/her how often they take classes/meet on campus each semester? I would really appreciate that!

Marie: Thanks for the info on the CPR course. I need to renew it- Anyone else interested in joining me? I am planning on taking it early-mid July.

Let me know! and congrats to all:yeah:thanks :)

The area round the school is not as dangerous as it sounds as the university is mostly surrounded by businesses. My husband works in Rancho Dominquez as its just truck traffic but yeah there's really nowhere nice to live round there. I live in Lomita which is next to torrance super safe and cheaper rent than Torrance. Long Beach you got to pick and choose your area carefully as there's ok parts and not so nice parts.

The most scandalous thing to happen at CSUDH was earlier in the year the campus went into lockdown as someone mistook a ROTC cadet for a student shooter.

You'll always hear about shootings in LA but seldom are they of people sitting around minding there own business if you know what I mean.

My final word though is people drive crazy in Carson!

Omg! I remember that~ it was pretty scary watching it on the news.

So... Lomita? I should look into that. I'm looking at the map... hmmm... not too far. Im thinking Long Beach or Torrance....Does anyone know about Gardena? Whats it like out there??

Specializes in Hospice / Ambulatory Clinic.

Gardena is a bit of a dump but it has awesome Korean and Japanese resturants. Not super low crime but not gang central either.

The whole lockdown thing to everyone working in the area was more annoying than scary as they had to route all the trucks and transportation around the blockades.

Torrance is a great area more expensive than lomita ( I have a steal of an apartment one block over from the sheriffs and firestation ;) )

Ok. Nm about living in Gardena, but I'm gonna be pigging out there! looove Korean & Japanese food. Mmmmm~hehe.

I should just drive out there and see whats around campus. Just to get a feel of that area anyway....If you dont mind me asking tothepoint... whats ur rent like? (trying to figure out a budget range) thanks!

tothepointe: thanks for the advice about lomita; i was looking at 1br prices in the torrance area, and was thinking about how i couldn't afford the area.

i received the hard copy letter from csudh with my pin for toroweb. how bout everyone else?
