Any Baker flint Students?

Published

I am attending my second quarter at Baker flint. I love this school (although some of the students are bit of a joke) and some of the teachers (My math teacher is kinda well dumb i guess her famous quote: "you either get it, or you dont, what is that) other than that I am a 3.9 student and am very proud of my self. I went to school for Massage and then went back to school for RN. You have to realize that I am 32 with 2 kids and a hubby who travels everywhere all the time. So I want him home more and decided to get a more stable job. Health care is the only option for me!! ANy way just wanted to see if there are more then just me who are scared to death about not getting into the program. I WILL SUCCEED!!!! :nuke:

Any way just wanted to say hi, must study origin, insertion, function and location for A&P I. WOOHOO

Sugarbear 25, did you attend baker of flint?

Thanks sugarbear, thanks for the advice. I'm going to go talk to someone at OCC and see what thier start dates are. If the RN program starts in the fall only then I would go ahead and do the LPN, then switch, but if they have winter and or spring start then I might consider doing the rest of what they require for the RN during the fall then get in the spring or winter.

Who knows, but what I do know is I will get in, no one is going to stand in my way.

Good luck everyone:)

I was thinking about something else regarding baker's RN program: That program in total is only 18 months. if you add that up it is approx 3.5 months shorter than any other RN program in michigan. I feel it was somewhat of a blessing for me not to have gotten in; the stress level is extremely over the top due to less time to teach the same material required by Mich BON. think about it, 10 weeks vs 16 weeks at any other school. How can someone become a well informed healthcare provider learning an enormous amount of information in almost half of the time required? I feel the LPN program will be ok due to the time of training, 1 full year, this is a normal amount of time to learn what is needed, not crammed and hoped to be learned. I have a great deal of empathy for some of my friends in the flint program as they are so stressed, some have been on probation due to low test grades and others have dropped out. I understand the nature of the stress level in any given RN program, but I feel that the time frame is much too short to learn and retain the information that is necessary.

I don't attend Baker, and I really wish you success on your journey in school. I just wanted to add, that I am a nursing student and our classes are 7.5 weeks long. There is an enormous amount of info that you must learn in that time and that is what makes nursing school tough. I think all nursing schools are going to be tough, but it makes you well rounded, a nurse's job is tough, and the program just prepares you to be flexible. I do hear there is life after nursing school, and that working will be nothing like school, so hang in there and I wish you well. Our program is 16 months long, four semesters in our RN program. I think most community colleges are about the same amount of time. Good luck.

I agree with rntoben2008 - nursing school is tough no matter where you go....there's tons of info to cram into your head no matte rhow long the course.

To me, the most frightening thing about an accelerated course is the lack of break during the 18 months. I know I crawled to my Christmas break and especially this summer break. There's a limit to how much I can stick into my head. I need to separate from my studies eventually, and 18 months is too long to go with a significant break.

To those who can get through in 18 months, a tip of the hat to you. You're a better person than I. :bowingpur

at OCC do they require the NET? What is the ladder program?

Yes, OCC does require the NET test. The ladder program is where you complete the LPN program and then work for about 6 months+ and then you begin the RN part of the program which runs from January until December.

See I went and talked to OCC and they told me all they require is a math profiency test. They have the NET just to see what ppl get on it but it is not required for entrance into the program.

I hope this is not going to be the same thing as Baker, one person saying one thing and one person saying another.

I called OCC and they told me that the next application date is december and that the next class to start would be in fall of 08, is this what you were told or was I misinformed? She also said I would need chemistry for the RN program.
