Any Baker flint Students?

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I am attending my second quarter at Baker flint. I love this school (although some of the students are bit of a joke) and some of the teachers (My math teacher is kinda well dumb i guess her famous quote: "you either get it, or you dont, what is that) other than that I am a 3.9 student and am very proud of my self. I went to school for Massage and then went back to school for RN. You have to realize that I am 32 with 2 kids and a hubby who travels everywhere all the time. So I want him home more and decided to get a more stable job. Health care is the only option for me!! ANy way just wanted to see if there are more then just me who are scared to death about not getting into the program. I WILL SUCCEED!!!! :nuke:

Any way just wanted to say hi, must study origin, insertion, function and location for A&P I. WOOHOO

:( I understand how you feel about repeating classes. My math didn't transfer over to Davenport and so I am retaking it again. I am also still exploring other options. Boy, the lessons we learn after the fact!

I know, I am still trying to get over that. Baker college is a good college for business programs mostly, in my opinion... When I spoke with the health advisor over at U of M, I was told that a lot of the Baker students come after the fact of not getting into the RN program. There are 5 classes needed, not a bad thing, I just don't have a lot of time to make all these decisions. I have narrowed my choices down to a few other schools, I just hope I learned the right material from Baker. Believe it or not I question the teaching methods over there and wonder if I will have the correct science information. Bakers programs in the science fields are too rushed and I blame myself for not changing when I started to feel this way in the early stages of my education. I pray alot that I will be educationally well rounded when all is said and done!

I understand your thoughts regarding the sciences classes, because at DV we have to take BIO105, which deals with way more science than what baker has taught. I felt lost and out of place. This made me scared of the HESI. Which I still yet have to take.:o

I absolutely REFUSED to ever go to Baker whether in Flint or otherwise when I decided to go to school for nursing. Why spend the time busting your butt and not know if it is going to pay off or if you'll have to go elsewhere and repeat certain courses! I started out at Mott and after 2 years and still no admission into their program I transferred to OCC. It only took one year and they offer a ladder program. I just finished in April :monkeydance: and am very pleased with the education that I received. I made some great friends and the faculty wants you to succeed! It was well worth the 3 hours round trip that I spent in the car Monday thru Friday for a year and a half, to say that on Friday night I will be the 1st in my family to graduate from college!:balloons:

Congratulations:balloons: How exciting :)

I was considering going to OCC. You have really made me even consider it more.

Which should I do? Should I transfer to OCC (there will still be some classes they require that I will have to take, like 3 or something like that) or should I do the LPN at baker then after I'm done with that transfer to somewhere and finish my RN??

I'm soooooo confused and frustrated??

HELP!!!

thanks!

I too was considering the LPN at Baker. I am very hesitant to go back to baker at this point, even for the LPN program. I did pretty good on the hesi and was still advised to retake it for the LPN. I feel so defeated by them. I am also struggling on what to do.

Were you going to be doig the LPN in flint??

I'm gonna try at the Auburn Hills campus (I did almost all my pre-req's there)

I'm thinking of it this way. I'm taking the hesi on monday june 18th, I'll know my score right away and I'll know if I'm accepted by July 4, and if they don't take me I'll immediatly go to OCC and transfer. At this point I'm leaving it up to God.

It just pisses me off thinking about the whole thing:angryfire I wish someone would have told me about baker before waisting the past 2 years when I probably would have been in a program somewhere else by now.

Now I have to jump through hoops to figure out the easiest way to become a Rn. I never wanted to do LPN, I wanted to go straight to RN>

I hope other people considering baker read this thread before making a descion that could ruin their life.

Hi carebear, yes I am considering doing that. I have all my pre-req's done for the program, I am taking the hesi on the 22nd. I feel your frustration, I have been researching since last dec 06 and have had one door shut after another as far as getting back on tract. It seems so scary to have to be under bakers thumb, but I want to become a nurse and this will afford me to do so. I am looking positive and am praying a lot!

let me know if you get in. Hey don't feel bad about becoming an LPN, it is only the first part of the 2 year degree you will finish. I look at it this way and it helps me feel better about all of this. You will become an RN and so will I, it will just take a little bit longer.

Good luck on your Hesi, I take mine on the 18th, I'll let you know how I did. Let me know how yours goes. :)

Carebear and adn44 my advice to you is to do what you think is best. For me the decision was easy. The only required classes that I needed when I transfered to OCC were Chemistry and a phys ed. OCC is a great school and well worth it! I wish you both the best of luck with whatever you decide but if you plan on doing the LPN @ Baker and want to continue for the RN @ another college make sure that everything transfers accordingly or it will cause you more migraines in the future!:banghead: GOOD LUCK!

I was thinking about something else regarding baker's RN program: That program in total is only 18 months. if you add that up it is approx 3.5 months shorter than any other RN program in michigan. I feel it was somewhat of a blessing for me not to have gotten in; the stress level is extremely over the top due to less time to teach the same material required by Mich BON. think about it, 10 weeks vs 16 weeks at any other school. How can someone become a well informed healthcare provider learning an enormous amount of information in almost half of the time required? I feel the LPN program will be ok due to the time of training, 1 full year, this is a normal amount of time to learn what is needed, not crammed and hoped to be learned. I have a great deal of empathy for some of my friends in the flint program as they are so stressed, some have been on probation due to low test grades and others have dropped out. I understand the nature of the stress level in any given RN program, but I feel that the time frame is much too short to learn and retain the information that is necessary.
