Any of you have a bad past?

Published

I graduated high school in the year of 1992 and went straight onto college. I only lasted a year and did not pass even one class. I had no interest in it and did not know what I wanted to do with my life, so I just goofed off.

I have been back in school for about a year and a half now and I am doing really well. This time I am very serious about getting my education and making something of myself. My question is do you think that this one year will kill my chances of getting into NS? :crying2:

My program actually says that it is suggested to retake classes, and they take the grade of the last time you took it.

Looking at another school, they count all attempts when calculating cumulative GPA.

As for the above poster, you are very much inaccurate in your post. I am well known around here to be very helpful, supportive, and uplifting. Too bad for you. :uhoh3: However, because I have applied, I can get on the bandwagon on how tough it is. tyvm ....have a good one.

Let's not continue to beat ourselves up for the past. I suggest that you retake all the classes you failed and your chances of getting into NS would be much better.

The school i went to would erase the bad grade and add the better grade.

Also, i suggest that you need to go talk to the Nursing Advisor about your plans of retaking the classes. Believe me, the Advisor will have much respect for your courage.

So consider yourself busy for the next few semesters. My friend did the same thing and it worked for her.:)

My reply

WOW, you sounded very upset in your reply. I just stated my opinion and you took off and ran with it. I guess since you are not in the nursing program yet, you cannot relate to what i'm saying.

In this profession, you have to put your "I know it all attitude" aside and conform to the nursing ways of thinking. I was an LPN before i became an RN, so my transition into the RN role has been much easier unlike my BSN friend.

SO my suggestion to you is CALM DOWN  . You seem to be on edge here. Fine you are supportive, and helpful around here but are you supportive and helpful to yourself, your colleagues and classmates? When you turn around and chew our heads off for offering our opinion!

With your kind of attitude, i would not be surprised if you do not last in the nursing program :crying2: . Please believe that any nursing instructor would not tolerate your obstinate attitude. I have been in 3 different nursing programs to know better. (LPN,ADN,BSN-MSN)

I'm sorry it did seem that way, but the bottom half of my post wasn't directed towards you. I didn't realize that you posted twice.

OUCH! Yes I am very helpful towards colleagues and classmates, etc. (In fact, I have a website full of quizzes that my classmates, and students from all across the United States have used.)

ONLY the top part was directed towards your comment, and it was just adding to your post so that the OP could check to see if her school takes the last attempts grade only, or if all attempts are considered. This would also help anyone having to retake classes when they are considering a variety of programs.

Truce??????

Wow Fun2Care I never thought I'd see the day where you were accused of having a bad attitude:(. Of course, one was a miscommunication, but wow- if anyone around here has inspired me to keep my head up it's been you:)

Now as for the OP's question. I graduated HS in 91 and went straight into college ( thanks MOM- not). I wasn't ready and I had a 1.67. I then followed the Grateful Dead around for a few years and tried college again in 94. Again, wasn't really ready and barely squeeked out above a 2.0 When I started my current college in 2004 I transferred over 2 grades from my old days ( 2 I had A's in) and I have had A's ever since. Yes, they will see my old transcripts but they will only be counting the ones I transferred over. Other courses I didn't transfer..and repeated.

Yeah, well, ya know how it goes. LOL

I hope Micro has been treating you well. :)

How did you only transfer 2 classes? Did you not need the others, and that's why they weren't counted?

I would like to say that I did the exact same thing, went to school 91/92 stopped after a couple of weeks. My GPA was 0.00. I am fortunate enough that my school will allow you to write on your application for nursing school that they only look at the last 15 hrs, so I studied studied studied and had a 4.0 average for them to look at, and I just got accepted into the nursing program to start in January.

Congrats!!!! Good luck, sydylo!!!

Are you in the same college as before? If not, the simplest thing to do is not transfer your credits.

In my program, the qualifying gpa for the program is figured from only the classes that are put on the application and count towards the degree.

I thought if you did this you'd get in trouble for not disclosing all your previous work? Is it optional?

I was only able to transfer the ones I had A's in because the other ones that would have counted I had either a C or a D or a E in. My school has the option of not transferring your C's ( you have to transfer A's and B's). So the course I had a C in ( Soc 101) I just took over and got an A. They also wouldn't transfer an A I had in Business 101 because it wasn't needed. I was kind of bummed about that b/c it would be 3 more credits - you know? But there are no elective credits here for ADN.

Micro has been treating me great- I haven't found it all that bad. I have a 99% average but a rough 4 weeks coming up!

I see. I have a C in Soc 101 as well... I won't take it over, unless I have to. It's towards my BSN, and from 1992. If I can keep it, I won't care about the grade. I'm not looking to be valedictorian of my RN-BSN class. :chuckle

I didn't need it for my ADN.

I'm glad to hear you are doing so well in Micro! Now that it's over, I guess it wasn't so bad. I know I was stressed the whole 8 weeks though while I was taking it! LOL (But, hey, an A is an A, right?)

Actually, you can get in trouble for not disclosing past college attendance!!! I've been to three schools and in the handbook of each it even states that degrees awarded can be revoked if all previous attendance of other schools of higher learning aren't declared. Whoever's done this, go to your office of admissions or registrar and ask; I bet you'll get an answer you don't like. Hmm...maybe you all should have a friend ask for you.....

Yeah, most colleges I've ever been to insist on you transferring all previous course work and if you don't, they say you are jeapordizing your admission and falsifying your past record. I'm not sure how they'd find out but who wants that problem hanging over your head. I do know in Texas you can apply under a 10 year grace/fresh start type program, where even though they ignore the previous course work you had over 10 years old, you must still transfer it.
