Any AF January COT hopefuls out there?

Published

Hey, just wanted to see if there were any other potential January COT candidates out there? I just signed my big packet of paperwork that's going to the board... now just waiting to hear!

Specializes in Med/Surg.

hey SummervilleRN-

your recruiter should have gone over all the grade/pay with you when you completed your packet (when s/he had you sign stuff like how much your monthly pay is, your housing stipend...etc.). you might want to talk to your recruiter again because that information is contained in your packet that goes to the board. this is true at least for a new grad recruit like me. i don't know about others who already have experience.

Yes, Ma'am you're correct.. They did go over my pay at that time, however I will have a years more experience to add to my resume and was told that there is a possibility of "sewing on additional rank" in 6mos...

Officers don't sew on rank. We pin on bars.

When I was enlisted we "sewed on" our stripes - "sewing" is an enlisted term.

AFPC will go over your experience from your date of licensure and will give you 1/2 credit for the total time. I have nineteen months experience and have nine months time in grade as a 2nd Lt. 12 months' experience equates to six months for the Air Force - which will indeed mean you'll put on your next rank that much sooner.

SummervilleRN...my recruiter told me the "Release date" for this board is Sept. 28th, but that it could take up to 10 days after that to hear anything. Good luck to you!!

I'm waiting for January COT too. My story-14 years (combination of Reserve and Active) Army Combat Medic, Desert Storm Vet, Ambulance Driver, Medic, Expert Field Medical Badge winner, LPN, then got out to move with my man and go to school to get my ADRN, then RN/BSN from University of Delaware. Worked at all sorts of levels in Army from small units, Med Battalion, field hospital, general hospital to regional hospital, then as a civilian worked long term health care and now work as RN at local hospital on Med/Surg floor for the past 2 years. I graduated from University of Delaware and was invited into Sigma Theta Tau as a Nurse Leader. I started my Air Force application process 18 months ago. 1st recruiter rotated out of recruiting, 2nd recruiter was relieved for a legal problem, 3rd recruiter put it all together and it just went in 3 weeks ago. It has cleared his desk, the health professionals flight chief desk, QA at Rendolph AFB and is on Colonel Moore's desk now for the last week. I will go in as a 2nd Lt, 46N3/1E. I love bed-side nursing on the Med/Surge level the very best. I served in Desert Storm at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany and really have an affinity for our wounded warriors. I want to help them in their worst hours and days when they really need the care of another. I've asked for Landstuhl as my first choice and Italy as my second, then a series of southern AFB's with hospitals next. Big Hospitals are for me. I'm married and have no kids. I'm fluent in German and spek Italian. I was raised in an AF family in Germany. My Gand Dad was a WWII Army Air Corps Vet and my Dad is a retired AF vet of Viet Nam era. My Husband is a Retire Marine. I can't wait!!!!!

Thank you for being kind!

I was called yesterday 9/21/09 by Col. Moore... Sounds as though the board did meet and are continuing with the selection process... After selections the eligible are sent to folks who do the assignments from there the recruiter is told via email/computer...........Best of Wishes and GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!!!

What did Col. Moore have to say? This is really interesting. Did she tell you that your were accepted?

Specializes in ER; Med/Surg; ACLS; PALS; BLS.

No, she did not formally say that I was accepted. She did talk to me regards to the position I was slotted for 46N3J (Emergency Room Nurse) and the position I want 46N3 (Outpatient). Which is a long story...but I will try to be brief.

When I applied to the AF I had requested to be an 46N3, however my recruiter decided that I would be better utilized, not to mention assist her in meeting her criteria (3:3) as an 46N3J. Col. Moore wanted to be sure that I wanted to be a 46N3J and not a 46N3 as per my paperwork....

I was more than gracious that she even called! But from what I am told by my recruiter is that the AF needs "nurses at the bedside" so, there is a STRONG need for 46N3 nurses. :D

AGAIN, GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!!

Hi everyone! I am a COT-January hopeful, and just finished with all the paperwork for my application. I found it pretty challenging to get all that paperwork done, because I still haven't graduated yet. I actually graduate in December and want to go to January COT. Sounds like there are a lot of 2nd career nursing or prior military, but I am neither. I wil be fresh out of nursing school and a little more than anxious! I think its because I am the first in my family to be in the military. I am grateful I read this thread. Good luck to everyone!

I am waiting for this mystic selection committees decision as well... I have been sitting around for months (I graduated May 09) without a job (being productive though). I have no nursing exp at all. I just hope this is the right decision; I might change my mind before the selection results are out.

Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if anyone is in the same boat but the previous post spurred me to ask if anyone is feeling more apprehensive about joining as November draws near? I had been very excited about joining - couldn't think about anything else- I still think about the AF everyday. But now I'm wondering if I am making the right decision too. Nothing in my life has changed really - to make me believe this could be the wrong choice for me. Is it normal to feel this way? Does anyone else feel this way too? Is it just cold feet as when people get married?

I think once I'm in (if I get in) I will be excited... Any advice?
