Any advice for the HESI A2 test?

Published

Anyone have any advice for me the HESI A2 entrance exam? I'll be taking it in less than 5 weeks and been studying the study guide and a review book of anat/physio. My test will be on anat, physio, chem, vocab, reading, and math. Anything would help... I need to score a composite score of at LEAST 85 but my goal is 90! Please help!

I still have to take the HESI A2 myself (I'm scheduled for March 26th!) so I can't eally give you any info on it... However, I do want to wish you good luck!!

I haven't taken the test either, but I've heard from friends who have. They say that the math is exactly like the math in the study guide. You should be fine in Math. Also, some anatomy to remember - transverse plan and Mid-sagital planes.Good luck on the rest of it.

I took it in 8/2007. I found it not too difficult. I studied the study guide and scored 90+ on all but the math -which is my weakest subject. I scored 88 on it. I haven't had a math course in 13 years, so I was very pleased. Just study the guide and you should be fine.

What did you think about the chem portion of the test? So, you think if I just review the guide thoroughly, that'll be enough to score over a 90?

I felt that basic concepts were covered on all aspects of the test. It didn't seem to go into any great detail in any subject.

As I stated above, I only studied the study guide and was able to do well. It served the purpose of "jogging" my memory on concepts that were long forgotten.

For chem, know how to do a basic density calculation. Know how to balance a simple equation. Know what the products of typical reactions are (acid + base, simple combination and decomposition, etc.). Study the types of bonding in the study guide. Know the properties of water and why they are important. Know the various subatomic particles (protons, neutrons and electrons), their charges and relative sizes. I think there was a question about determining the number of protons from the mass number, but I'm not sure. Be able to do a simple gas law problem. If it's been a few years since you had chemistry, definitely review your notes. Most of the chem stuff was straight out of the study guide, but a few questions were not. I got a 96 on that section.

LoriS,

Thanks for the chem info. At least I kind of know what to expect on that portion. If I could score at least a 90 on the chem portion that would bring up my score by a lot. I'll make sure to really study the guide and brush up on my chem notes from a couple years ago. Good thing I kept the book!

I was really glad to find this thread - after finishing up all my prereqs I checked in with my counselor at the college to make sure all my ducks were in a row so that I could apply and she hands me this sheet describing the HESI A2 that our college has just now started. I was flabbergasted. I did buy the study guide, but I'm already freaking out, worrying about the Chemistry and the Biology. It just irks me that after all this work, I now have to worry about whether or not I can get in hinging on this test! I have a 3.22 GPA, and have taken all my prerequisite courses!

Anyway, a couple of questions I have: if you don't pass it, can you try again, and what's the details on that? and also, besides the study guide, I see where there are additional study guides and flashcards for the HESI, has anyone tried those? :smackingf

It depends on your school. The school I took HESI A2 for will let you take it twice, 60 days apart. Then you can't take it again until the next admissions cycle. I have heard that the additional study guides and flash cards for the HESI aren't worth it. Most books have way more math in them than you need for the HESI A2.

Remember also how to tell an ionic compound from a covalent compound. That's one other type of question I remember from my exam.

I also have to take this test. What study guide is everyone speaking of that they used to prepare them and it worked? Where can I get one? (All I've seen is the flashcards on the internet??) Thanks!
