  1. What is a typical day (if there is such a thing) for a nurse on a mobile crisis team? I have asked this question before and was lead to believe that social workers, not nurses that were on the team. It sounds interesting.

On Friday, I accepted a position on a Mother/Baby unit, also. I am a new Grad who started in the ED and did not like it. I hung in for three months because I was hoping that one day I would just fall in love, but it hasn't happened. I also have guilt for jumping ship when the managers took a chance on a new Grad and I was told how well I caught on. I actually went to nursing school to become a L/D nurse, but somehow got off course. It is a blessing to have not one, but two opportunites in specialties in this economy. I have been thanking God every chance I get . I am now able to follow my heart. Congrats to you!
  3. Keep us posted as to how your first day was. I am also interested in psych and would love to know your experiences.
  4. That may get you in, also. So many are assigned as "alternates". I have a feeling that they were at the end of the "9's" and possibly "8's". Quite a few people will decline their spots, so there is always hope. Good luck and I hope to see you in Fall '09.:)
  5. Judging from history, if you have at least 9 points, you have a really good chance. I am not sure where they stopped on the list, but I do know that quite a few alternates are currently in the program. I know not everyone was enrolled in Spring courses as it is not a requirement, but does help. You may try calling the Health Science Center in Kaufman and ask to speak with Jeffery (counselor). He is very helpful. I was a little discouraged after submitting my application because I spoke with a few students who were already in the program and they told me that they had only admitted students with 10 points in the Fall '07 class and they didn't think that my chances were that great. When I spoke with the counselors, I found out that it was simply untrue.
  6. I am planning to continue until I have my MSN, so I continued to take requirements toward that degree (Algebra, Chemistry, Stats, etc.). I don't believe that they look at what courses you are taking, just that you are enrolled in the Spring semester. I am speaking of the list of applicants. You are ranked first by points, then by if you are enrolled in the Spring, then by how many hours you are enrolled in -at least that is how it was explained to me by a counselor.
  7. I was able to get in with 9 points in Fall '08. I also took additional courses in the Spring so that I could be at the top of the list. It worked! I am unsure how far they went down on the list when accepting students. Hope that helps.
  8. I am not a guy, but I am currently in the program. We have approximately 10 males in our class. We started with more, but a few dropped for various reasons. I just finished Level I and it was an adjustment to say the least. It is a very demanding program (like most). The amount of information that you are required to absorb is at times mind numbing. We often joke that our brains are sore. That being said, I wouldn't change a thing. I definitely feel that I am being taught by competent instructors. Trust me, I would say different if it were not the truth.
  9. I too am a military spouse having to transfer programs. I just finished my first semester in a nursing program and will have to transfer after next semester. We are currently living apart until I can be accepted for transfer into another program (hopefully by June). I have been interviewed by 5 schools to find which one will accept my courses and of the 5, 2 will allow me to enter midway in their programs. Both do require me to take additional core courses. It is very frustrating, because I currently have 80+ hrs of core courses (many of which are not required by the transfer schools) and will have to take more. It sometimes feels like I will never finish. Nursing school is very stressful and having to switch gears only compounds it. If you have waited this long for your dream, don't give up. It is only a minor set back that you can overcome.
  10. I am a mother of 4, ages 16 (special needs), 8,4 and 1. I will begin the ADN program in August. My schedule will be Tues 8-4:30 pm, Wed and Thur 12:30-4:30p. I took 19 hrs the past two semesters to complete all of my core courses before begining the program and I managed to maintain a 3.7 GPA. I do not work, but my spouse is military and because of his current orders, he is not very dependable during the week. I am blessed to have a mother-in-law that loves the company of her grandchildren. I studied when I put the younger children to bed, in the school library between classes, or when the children took "trips to Granny's house." I haven't figured clinicals out yet, but as a previous poster wrote, if you want it bad enough.... You will do fine with a little planning.
  11. I felt that basic concepts were covered on all aspects of the test. It didn't seem to go into any great detail in any subject. As I stated above, I only studied the study guide and was able to do well. It served the purpose of "jogging" my memory on concepts that were long forgotten.
  12. I took it in 8/2007. I found it not too difficult. I studied the study guide and scored 90+ on all but the math -which is my weakest subject. I scored 88 on it. I haven't had a math course in 13 years, so I was very pleased. Just study the guide and you should be fine.
  13. My professor recommended a TI-84. My opinion is that it's overkill and I don't know how to use most of the functions. I am only in the first few weeks of Gen Chem, so I hope that I will see the benefit of such an expensive purchase.
