Anyone have any advice for me the HESI A2 entrance exam? I'll be taking it in less than 5 weeks and been studying the study guide and a review book of anat/physio. My test will be on anat, physio, chem, vocab, reading, and math. Anything would help... I need to score a composite score of at LEAST 85 but my goal is 90! Please help!
I took the A2 this past weekend, and I would highly suggest studying Biology, Anatomy and Chemistry. The math is mostly fractions (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing). You also need to know your Roman Numerals. The study guide (Admission Assesment by HESI) does not really help much. The science sections will be no help to you. I got a 100 on the Grammar section. If you know how to speak properly, you won't even need to study. I have been out of school for 8 years and had a difficult time with the Biology portion of the exam. I studied for 2 months for this test and I barely passed. My school requires a 75, I got a 77. I consider myself fairly smart..I have a 3.8 GPA after 3 years of college. Everyone that I have talked to at my school agrees that it is a pretty hard test. I reviewed basic biology and anatomy online. As for re-taking the exam, my school will let you take it twice. You have to wait 6 months to take it again, and if you fail a second time, you cannot apply for the nursing program. I thought this was a tough exam...but it has been YEARS since I took any science. Also, the study guide has physics in it, my test did not have s physics section. So check with your school and make sure it will be on your test before you waste time studying it. Definitely know your medical terminology. Also, there are 6 hours allowed for this test, I finished in about 2, you have PLENTY of time. Good Luck!
Math, reading, grammer, etc are easy.
Killer part is the anatomy and physiology section. You have to know the nerves, muscles, bones, veins/arteries. You also have to know which glands secrete which hormone. I had a question that asked which hormone does anterior pituitary gland secrete?

I just finished taking the HESI A2. The math was very similiar to what is in the review book. There were tons of proportion problems, decimal to fractions etc. Basic stuff! I have not had A&P II, but scored a total of 88 on the AP section. My overall score was 86.40 which isn't that bad, but I have plans on retaking for improvement.
Good luck!

I forgot to add (from previous post). I would say that 90% of the A&P questions were related to APII (receptors, hormones, membrane, nerves, and functions). I felt a bit lost - as my A&P I will be finished in approximately 2 weeks. The voc. words were not that bad, however, there were a few words that I simply did not know. The majority were not related to the medical field, they were used in generalized terms. I passed the overall with 86.4 so I am satisifed, but will be retaking soon.

I had the majority of my pre-req.'s out of the way when I took the HESI. I did not find it difficult at all. I did not buy a study guide or anything- I scored a 90. I felt the majority of the questions where based on knowledge I gained from the pre req.'s! GOOD LUCK!
