Anti-vax nurses? Are you serious?

Published

We were discussing the Disneryland measles outbreak at work, and I was appalled to find some of my co-workers refuse to vaccinate their kids. They (grudgingly) receive the vaccines they need to remain employed, but doubt their safety/necessity for their kids.

I must say, I am absolutley stunned. How can one be a nurse and deny science?

As a nurse, you should darn well know what the scientific method entails and what phrases such as "evidence based" and "peer reviewed" mean.

I have to say, I have lost most of my respect for the nurses and mistrust their judgement; after all, if they deny science, on what premise are they basing their practices?

Stop with your ranting... I am not a horrible person. I am actually someone that truly cares about my patients. I don' trust the government to be honest with us. Studies can be swayed. Yes we have eliminated a lot of diseases from vaccinations, but sanitation has helped there also. Done with this post.

Oh, the old "sanitation argument."

Vaccines are Effective | Vaccines.gov

If the drop in disease were due to hygiene and sanitation, you would expect all diseases to start going away at about the same time. But if you were to look at the graph for polio, for example, you would see the number of cases start to drop around 1955 – the year the first polio vaccine was licensed. If you look at the graph for Hib, the number drops around 1990, for pneumococcal disease around 2000 — corresponding to the introduction of vaccines for those diseases.

Golly gee, that's one HELL of a coincidence.

Good blog on Nurses Who Vaccinate that says more people should speak out against ant-vaxx nurses. Describes andi78 to a "T".

Hi Everyone! I'm the founder of Nurses Who Vaccinate and I was following this thread for a couple of days after a colleague sent me the link. Kudos to the nurses who corrected and addressed the misinformation brought forward. To those who have questions and concerns about vaccines- I'd like to invite you to visit our website and Facebook page- hopefully we can address your worries.

For those who are interested in speaking up for science and meeting like-minded nurses, I would like to suggest signing up to become a member.

Hope to see you there!

Welcome! I'm so glad you got the information forwarded to you. I want to encourage everyone to check out Nurses Who Vaccinate.

Is it wrong that I'm like this :eek: that there needs to be a page called Nurses Who Vaccinate?

No :cheeky: Probably not.

But I'm glad they are there. We need a counter-balance of voices as you can see from this thread. We've obviously got more pro-vaccine voices here but if you go to some of the mommy groups or anti-vaxx sites . .. . .you will quickly be outnumbered.

I have family members who are anti-vaxx . . . . .they don't like my FB much. :)

Probably about as much as my former Catholic family members like my FB. ;)

Can we turn this debate to something relevant, that is less mind numbing than some of the posts in this thread?

The dress is black and blue.

And remember, sometimes you have to have some downtime in a heated thread. This isn't the Breakroom side though . . . . .

That dress is SOO blue and dark brown. I just showed hubby, and he said "is this a trick question? It's white and tan."

He had NO idea this was "a thing," and had not heard a thing about it!

It's hard enough to get off here. I can't imagine if I put breakroom on my daily internet trolling. 😳
