I am currently a senior at the University of Florida majoring in Anthropology. I want to continue my education when I graduate by going to nursing school - but would most like integrate these two fields. Are there any nursing schools out there that integrate these two disciplines? Thank you!

I had to take a class in it if that is what you mean? I'm kidding.
The nursing field requires that professionals assess people and implement treatment using a holistic approach. So yes, as a practicing nurse you will be able to integrate your knowledge of Anthropology. Similar to those of us who have worked and/or earned a degree in Psych and Social Work.

I don't know of any schools that focus on that aspect in particular (not that I've looked), but I have my M.A. in anthropology and have to say it comes in very handy in nursing school. I think the two fields ARE integrated to some degree, regardless of where you go to school (even if the classes are not titled "anthropology").
I focused on cultural anthropology, which may make a difference, but IMO a discipline that promotes an awareness (of others) without judgment is a positive thing regardless of where you go with it.

I don't know of any specific schools with that focus BUT there is an "up and coming" field in nursing--transcultural nursing. Dr. Madeleine Leininger is a nurse-anthropologist who proposed similarities between nursing and anthropology. She is famous in nursing for her theory-generated model (The Sunrise Model) which depicts cultural care.
nurses can become a certified transcultural nurse, so this may be something you would like to do.

I agree with the above posters. Check out TCNS.
I was on course to obtain my Ph.D in Cultural Anthro but quit to focus on my Masters in Nursing (gotta pay those bills, sigh) but I plan to get back into the doctoral program and finish it up.
I agree that your Anthro degree would come in handy when dealing with Homo Sapian Sapian (smile) especially if you focused on cultural anthro. I am very interested in what drives and motivates people.
\Good Luck to you in your studies!

Hello Brena,
I'm an RN with a MS in Physical Anthropology and a MSN. Case Western Reserve University has a combined MSN/MA (Anthropology) Joint degree you might be interested in checking it out. Web address is http://www.case.edu
