Another slightly silly question re: supplies

So I may be turning 28 next month but I am still very much a childlike spirit. I enjoy the cute, fun, and happy things in life. They help keep me in high spirits while facing terrible challenges. I've purchased two large 3 ring binders - one light blue, one light pink - and they have the clear layer where you can insert a picture of your choice. I really want to go with a My Little Pony (newest generation) picture... do you think this will be looked down upon as "unprofessional"? (It won't be going to clinicals, it's strictly for class work.)

p.s. my brand new laptop is pink, too :uhoh21:

Just wanting to know if I am making a mistake. I can't help myself sometimes, I love shiny things... :o

Depends on your school culture, I'd say. In mine, someone is frowned upon because she has a picture of a somewhat sexy 1950's style nurse bending over a desk flirtatiously. This is on the cover of her binder and a couple instructors have commented on it because in this school, the media portrayal of nursing is a hot button.

So, I'd say learn your school's culture before personalizing your things. While they shouldn't penalize you for such things, you really don't want to be looked upon as a powder-puff or someone not serious about nursing if your school has no sense of humor.

I'll admit, I did buy two Lisa Frank folders along with all of my monochromatic boring supplies for school. They totally reminded me of 3rd grade, and as I recall, 1986 was a good year. ;)

I'm just going to use them for miscellaneous handouts, one for theory and one for clinicals.

I kept a picture of smurfette-nurse in my binder on the back cover so you could see it when I was walking down the halls (our nursing uniform made us look like smurfs and smurfettes and was a running joke). If it makes you happy, why not have it? I do agree with the PP. wait until you feel out your classmates if they are super-serious or they are more chilled. if its the former, maybe put it in a sheet protector inside your binder so only you see it

Do it & enjoy it!! :yeah: I'm almost 50 and have a nice collection of Hello Kitty school stuff and I use it. Planning on buying myself a Cheshire Cat :heartbeat badge holder off Etsy for when I do go to clinicals too.. and I will get one that's bright pink to contrast with my purple tube Littmann Cardio III stethoscope. :lol2:

I'll be 28 next month, too....but that's another sad thread on it's own ;)

I love bright things that make me happy. I bought bright, happy notebooks and folders to go with my bright, happy backpack, and my bright happy stethoscope and scrubs. It's just who I am. I won't be taking my puppies in space Lisa Frank folder to clinicals, though ;)

I'm the same way! I'm almost 29 and I still get a little giddy when I see Lisa Frank folders lol. I didn't get one, but I did buy a magenta trapper keeper :)

Hahahha I resisted but teh trapper keepers were seriously callign out to me

Go for it GIRL!! We are all Girls at heart!! All of my stuff is colorful and I'm rather obsessed with zebra print so I will say all my supplies match my personality and there is no reason not to go with it! If someone has a snibe comment about it just giggle because your light hearted and they are lame!! Good Luck!!!

I've got a Cheshire cat t shirt. It's adorable. I agree with everyone else, do what makes you happy. My teachers already told my mum they don't care what I look like as long as I do my homework. Lol I agree that you should get a feel for the teachers at least.

Go for it. It is what makes you happy and we're allowed to indulge ourselves no matter our age. I'm 26 and I have bright purple shoes I wear to class. My socks are also *ahem* unique. I don't wear them to clinical, but they make me happy and no one has commented negatively on my professionalism yet. I would probably ignore it if they did unless they actually had a valid point; they are just footwear/socks and we don't have a dress code for lecture.

We were told to come to class in business casual. I honesty don't even know what that would look like. Loafers and polos come to mind, neither of which exist in my closet.

So, tomorrow I'll be wearing scrubs. :)
