I found out this afternoon that a co-worker of mine is leaving nursing to become an FBI agent. While I am happy for her, this is another loss for nursing, as yet another one leaves our profession for greener pastures...
The wakeup call goes unnoticed.......... :stone
Sorry for your loss.. and the profession's. Best wishes to her ! :)
She wasn't. The last time I had an encounter with her, she almost bit my head off. Today she was all smiles, as she talked to another co-worker about her new job. I don't blame her. Nurses are leaving and transferring out of our department in droves, leaving us (you guessed it), even more short-staffed. It's just a vicious cycle. Why bother? :stone
Many suffer burnout, I did. It is terrible. You question your self worth constantly. And when you did the best that you could, but were still expected to do more, where do you turn? I left nursing for two years, painted houses with my husband, and wrote a published novel on nursing. I am working per diem with an agency and love it, why? Because I work my shift & go home. I am not pulled into the workplace politics, therefore, I do not take stress home with me. FBI sounds exciting, maybe the nursing skills will come in handy, you know- forensics, like CSI..............

I am heading in this direction. Plan on making an appt. with an agency next week for some hours. Trying to do 12 hrs. of work in 8 can get to you. And when you stay for 12, there's 16 hrs. worth of work needed to be done. *sigh

How ironic! My daughter is an FBI Agent...and wishes she were a nurse!
The grass is always greener! :)

That sounds so cool
I always wanted to do the FBI thing after seeing that olf Jimmy Stewart movie
I too am thinking of leaving the profession (after 8 years). Ultra sound tech is looking better and better. Another co-worker is going to school to be a pharmacist (sorry my spelling sux) and another is quitting to help our her husbands business. Yep more and more nurses are leaving ...When will they get it?
FBI s gain..nursings loss however i would like the idea of FBI better than nurses....more respect...more varied duties....government benefits ie health insurance, vacation pay, life insurance, scholarships for you AND for your children...retire in 20 years at full pay...i don't see a down side
