I hate to be another new grad on here upset cause i can't find work.... but.... I CAN'T FIND WORK! i graduated in May, passed boards in July! and still nothing! honestly, i didn't think it was going to be as hard as it is to find a job! at this point i just want to cry daily , when the phone doesn't ring with any call backs! i have dozens of applications in, i'm making follow up calls, i just don't know what else to do!
i'm sorry i just had to come on and vent a little! i'm very much becoming depressed cause i still have not gotten ONE call back yet! all i want to do is work! i'm starting to get scared i'm not going to find anything, and i have all these student loans to pay back! ugh
Diva: that makes complete sense now! i did my normal call back today about a position, and the woman told me at the time they are fully staffed but when things change she would call me! and i was thinking then why is the job still posted?jhaf07: yes i am close to LGH, however it is one of 2 hospitals i just will not apply to. i have personal reasons why i will not work there. i will not to say it is a bad place for you, but for me it is just somewhere i can not be. a few of my fellow classmates have been hired there, and some have interviewed there and not been hired. i hope that you will not have the same problem as i am when you graduate! i have heard the tern non-nursing shortage thrown around a lot right now. but from what i have read and the current articles on lancasteronline, is that hospitals are working at legal limits only, and really only hiring internal, or expiranced nurses because of the economy, even though we are still in need of many nurses. right now many nurses who were suppose to be retireing are not, and many who just retired their spouses are loosing their jobs so they are coming back into the field. so hopefully this will change soon! i wish you the best of luck! where are you going to school? inbox me if you don't want to post it on here! if you need any help studying let me know!
OP i do believe you are doing yourself a big injustice or you are taking space on here. You have vented that you dont have a job and getting frustrated but you wont move, work in LTC and even apply to 2hospitals that are hiring in the area because of personal reason. I know everyone has a right to their reasons but i know that a beggar has no choice but it seems you want to have everything when people are even looking for a taste of something.
I guess since your husband makes enough to keep the family, you just dont care.
I never said i was not apply at LTC. i have been, i just stated that i have my reservations about working in one as a manager.
as far of the 2 hospitals: one of them in a national owned, where the level of care has been in question and the hospital is doing everything in their power to cut corners and make $$, so no i will not apply somewhere i think my license will be in jeopardy. the other hospital yes i do have personal reasons for not wanting to work there, however if i do not find something soon, i will be applying there. and no i can not move at this time,
let me just get this one straight......let me sell my house and loose a lot of $$ because of the economy to go accross country to find a job, when my husband is not guaranteed to find a job. not to mention leaving my family, and up-rooting my 3 children (that just makes complete sense) and maybe right now i am making the choice not to apply to 2 hospitals, but like as you stated, my husband does support our family at this time, i don't feel that i need to subject myself to a working enviroment that i don't agree with. sorry if you feel my post is a waste of space, like stated upbove, i'm just frustrated i'm not getting any call backs. and i know i'm not alone i was just looking for some support, and encouragement.
Miss Liss,
You have the right to seek encouragement and support as well as everyone here. I understand your situation and agree with you that you have the right to choose where you want to work.
A few months ago, I went to an interview at a cosmetic place, and even though they didn't call me, I had decided that I wasn't comfortable selling botox (maybe they sensed it and that's why they didn't call me ).
I do not agree with whoever posted that beggars can't choose. You should not engage in any activity you feel uncomfortable with, or could wind up in a very dangerous situation (including, like you mentioned, jeopardizing your license)
However, I do agree with others that it hasn't been too long since you graduate. I got my license on April 2010 and no job yet I also own my house, but I don't have a husband that pays for bills...I am on my own
Still, I don't loose hope. Everything will work out eventually. So don't desperate, I'm sure you'll find something soon. :)
Thanks witc!
i hope you find something soon! i know it hasn't been very long yet, but i'm seeing many stories like yours, and it is making me worry! honestly, if i was "movable" or single, i would seriously consider joining the airforce. a few years ago the reserves made me an offer i almost couldn't refuse. but after my hubby and i talked long and hard about it, it was just something that wasn't for us.
i know many of us new grads all over the country are in the same boat, it just really stinks!
i pose another question for all the new grads that have gotten jobs. how long after submitting applications did you get a call about interviews? and is it wrong to keep applying for many jobs at the same hospital? or should i limit to a certian number for a time period?

It depended on how the application process was. Some hospitals wanted 1 general application. Others you had to apply for each and every job you were interested in.

I got my RN license in Sep 2010 and took me 9 more month to find a job in LTC sub-acute unit. I was hired right after the interview. After working in LTC for 2 month, I got call from major hospital for an interview for a residency position I applied 3 month ago. Yep, it took 3 month for the hospital to call me for my first interview, but then things works quickly. I was asked back in 2 days for 2nd interview and offer the job on that day. I appied to the same residency at the same hospital 3 times. It is absolutely fine to keep applying for the same hospital. It worked for me.
Thanks Kamilia!
that gives me hope! i have 3 applications at this one hospital right now, and a few at others at other hospitals. i just wasn't sure if it was ok to keep applying to different floors while i had some already in. but i think i'm going to, because i know for a fact they have already been interviewing for at least one of the positions. hoping something happens soon!

I was at Walgreens the other day and the clerk asked what I did I said a nurse and said you run your but off but you hardly ever get a break. She said I get 3 breaks and I'm going to nursing school and isn't the money worth it? Truthfully, no I don't think the money is worth the stress and abuse we have to put up with. I told her new grads start at $22/hr and she was so excited. That's wonderful! That would be $10/hr more than I'm making now and I already have a bachelor in marketing!
