scary stuff.
my youngest son (19) lives near Seattle - I just texted him and told him that even though he is up on his imms, he needs to be careful!

That's so scary. Herd immunity does not work if not enough of the herd is immunized. Why people continue to put their kids through this I will never understand. Good luck to your son Bunny, I hope he stays healthy

These topics always hit me hard. My God Daughter was diagnosed with a rare form of ALL at 2 years old. She thankfully is in remission and doing so well now, but because of her history she cannot be fully immunized. She fully relies on herd immunity to protect her from things like this.

I wonder if any of the cases were adults. We had an outbreak in Illinois a few years back that was spread by a daycare worker (in her 50s) to an infant. Of course anti-vaxxers don't help the problem, but so many adults fail to get titers drawn, booster shots, or even bother to step foot in a general practitioners office.

Time to dig out my Soapbox. Where did I put that thing? Can't be too far, I feel like I just had it out for the last outbreak....

Oh man. Hope that she stays well (and in remission)! When I lived and worked in the PNW we had a higher proportion of people choosing not to vaccinate on the western side in the big cities. Clark County surprises me though - it's smaller and rural although it's right across the river to Portland (and there's no state income tax in WA).
