Anatomy and Physiology before Chemistry

Published

Hi guys!!!

Have you taken A&P before Chemistry? I was trying to register for CHM, but there's not a single seat available in any of the campus at Miami Dade College, so I thought I could take A&P first. This is the first Pre-requisite I'll be taking...so I'm not very informed of how things work...Any advice will be highly appreciated.

Thanking in advance :)

I recommend just reviewing that chapter in chemistry on your own before starting A&P. It's really not all that difficult. Even if you are dumbfounded with the reading, that is OK as long as you have gained familiarity with the material beforehand. And you're not expected to know any more chemistry for A&P than is covered in that one chapter. I also had several students in my A&P classes that had never taken chemistry (or gen biology for that matter) and they did well.

I didn't take chemistry before A&P, and I didn't feel like I was any worse off because of it. Read the chemistry chapter at the beginning of the A&P book, and you'll be fine. Good luck!

General Chem as well as Organic and Biochem were pre-reqs to taking Anatomy and Physiology at my school (as well as prereqs for Patho and Micro). Our professors did not review chemistry in any of these courses, perhaps because it was assumed that everyone had a background in chemistry.

I definitely believe that knowing the chemistry helped immensely in these classes.

I wonder if "review" is enough for someone who hasn't had any chemistry.

It was for me.. got a solid 98% in A&P without any chemistry first. Now that I've taken Organic Biochem, I still don't understand the necessity of taking chem before A&P..
