I'm interested in getting my master's online so I can be an NP............I am only aware of Vanderbilt (but they are expensive). I need one that is reasonably priced and accredited and not soem scam.Has anyone done an online MSN program.......are they legit? Thanks !
I can't speak for all, but just USI, the one I'm going to. At USI, you have a choice, go to class or sit at home and watch the classes on your computer. If you are at home during class you ask questions through stream line chat. If you are in class you raise your hand to ask questions. If you miss the class because you are at work, you simply just watch it recorded. The only drawback by doing it this way is you can't ask questions in real time--you have to send an email or put it up on the discussion board. As far as cliinical goes, the requirements are the same. You have to find your own preceptor and put in 665 clock hours with your preceptor. Testing is done all online and you have roughly 45 seconds to a minute to answer each question. This is the most dificult part for me because I don't read very fast, but it has to be done this way to make sure people don't cheat.
How do you know if USI is an approved school? i would like the on-line classes too. Do i have to go to USI for some things like interview etc?
this is on their nursing dept's website (which is good enough for me :) ):
[color=#0000a0]the master of science in nursing program is accredited by the commission on collegiate nursing education (ccne). accreditation is an indication of public approbation, attesting to the quality of the educational program and the continued commitment of the sponsoring institution to support the program.

USI is regionally accredited by the big boys. Also, the MSN program (all) are programmaticaly accredited by CCNE. USI has never had a student fail NP boards, and they let you know about that. Kind of like that movie, The Firm, with Tom Cruz, "No associate has ever failed the bar before."
I am attending this program and it is excellent. All of the courses are online with clinicals arranged in your communiity. It has been ranked in the top 50 Graduate Schools in the country.

That is exactly why I am a paid member to this site. There is so much information on this site. I just went online to Indiana State University and applied to their program. That makes it #36 MSN FNP programs I've applied to. Thanks all.Another question, how do I get a photo added to my profile?

Just curious why you applied to so many schools. Are they all online? I am narrowing my choices to 3 and then applying to them. Does anyone else think it is that tough to get in to NP schools?

There is no reason to apply to more than 2 or 3 unless your GPA is below 3.00 or you have less than a year of exp or you have some type of history problem or you are applying to one of the premiums like UCSF, Duke or Johns Hopkins.

I did apply to some of the premiums...Johns Hopkins, University of Washington Seattle, Duke to name a few. I also applied to 8 online programs.
I want to have a large selections of where I can go.
I would not change anything. I have good GPA, 14 years experience and no criminal history so none of those apply to me that you stated. Good luck to all.

are these programs online and are they expensive? The cost does not always determine that something is good but I;ll check out the schools myself and see what is up. thanks for the info:yeah:
