Good grief....I hope they never find a personal use for root beer........

It could happen, years ago, 7Up used to be recommended to post-partum women (the spring water used to make it contained lithium) (this fact was in my Maternity nursing book.)

Coca-cola used to have cocaine in it, so it was recommended for people with 'nervous disorders'.

Pepsi used to contain pepsin, recommended for upset stomachs.

Dr. Pepper was peddled as an "energy drink".

Thank you, Marie *dripping sarcasm*

I knew about the Coke, but not the 7-Up. Gotta check that site out!

TOO funny! I was three weeks shy of my fourth birthday, when this article came out. I can just see my Mom waiting at the front door for my Dad (Ha, Ha! :rotfl:). She wasn't a feminist, but she didn't wait on anybody, including him. What a hoot! :lol2:

We have come along way, and in relatively in a short time.

In my highschool (all girls) they gave us this article, and we got to discuss what it means to us, and talked about how things have changed.

I talked to my aunt recently and though shes only 60, she serves my uncle. It is nothing like this article, but she fixes my uncles plate first, make sure hes ok, then will make a plate for herself. She cooks, and cleans for him, even though they both are retired. We have discussed it, and she says thats the way shes used to doing things and is happy to do so. He is a loving husband, and buys her pretty things though...

My mom, on the other hand, who is only 2 years younger would never do that for my dad ! Ha... He does not expect it either.

Im glad we have come alonggg way, and think we will continue to change, because girls are taught in school and in the media (well, at least more so now than ever before) that they can be empowered, can have female qualities, and can be treated equally, or at least deserve too. I was raised believing that, much more than my parent's generation. (actually, they are like 2 generations older than me! )

On the other hand, when you are at home, and your partner comes home from along day, I would smile for him, welcome him home, ask about his day. But I hope he would do that same thing for me! Welcome each other!

man, if i had spent all day, and even parts of yesterday, preparing a nice meal for my husband, and he didn't even come HOME that night... i would be some pee'd off..

Well, when my then soon-to-be ex-husband started pulling that crap on me, I told him when he finally decided to come home he could get his dinner...out of the garbage. How's them apples? He didn't like it one bit, either. Ask me if I cared.

We conscientiously(sp?) practice this in my house! Your home is your safe haven, where you are supposed to feel comfortable, relaxed, and accepted. We both work twelve hour shifts (hubby as a policeman)...so it feels really good when I come home from a long day and he is there smiling, happy to see me and interested in letting me unload my troubles. I do the same for him.:blushkiss

We had this happen as well, to 'comment on what we think of the article' and my comment was "well, it would make great toilet paper the day after eating chilli"

OTOH - I think of all the divorces and failed relationships, the casual nature of relationships, the breakdown of the family - perhaps it wasn't such a bad thing. I think of course the main thing is that we are ALL (m + F) working too much, so the kids don't get as much of our attention and energy, and neither do our marriages.

So I think there is something to be said for traditional roles to some extent. Our families are in deep trouble and it's only going to get worse.

Don't nobody kill me, k? But after two failed marriages, I would be happy to be married in an "old school" way - (so I think...)
