This is not so long ago--scary, isnt it. I think there are some who still believe this type of thing.
My MIL being one of them:o

It was over 50 years ago, and that was the prevailing attitude at the time, like it or not. You'll have to stop buying every women's magazine that was around at that time because they all had similar articles. Do did newspapers and book.
Yes times have changed, and so have those magazines.

Is this for real, really? I can't believe that! What woman in her right mind would fall for that crap? I still think that is a fake article. If it is real than I am amazed at how different things are now. I honestly think I am at the complete opposite end of the spectrum on every single one of those points.......AMAZING!
Its real! It truly is amazing..my favorite was the part where they say "Dont complain if he is late..or even if he stays out all night..."

Actually, it's not at all clear that it is "real":

I borrowed my MILs cookbook once, she'd gotten it when she married my FIL in the 60s. It had a list of very similar things in it. If the article isn't exactly right, I'm pretty sure it's close to accurate

Funnily enough these rules for teachers look much like those they had for nurses that do the rounds every so often;

RULES FOR TEACHERS - 1872
1. Teachers each day will fill lamps, clean chimneys.
2. Each teacher will bring a bucket of water and a scuttle of coal for the daily' session.
3. Make your pens carefully. You whittle nibs to the individual taste of the pupils.
4. Men teachers may take one evening each week for courting purposes, or two evenings a week if they go to church regularly.
5. After ten hours in school, the teachers may spend the remaining time reading the Bible or other good books.
6. Women teachers who marry or engage in unseemly conduct will be dismissed.
7. Every teacher should lay aside from each pay a goodly sum of this earnings for his benefit during his declining years so that he will not become a burden on society.
8. Any teacher who smokes, uses liquor in any form, frequents pool or public halls, or gets shaved in a barber shop will give good reason to suspect his worth, intention, integrity and honest.
9. The teacher who performs his labor faithfully and without fault for five years will be given an increase of twenty cents per week in his pay, providing the Board of Education approves.
