Has anyone applied for the AMNP Summer 2011 term? It's been 3 weeks since the deadline for applications and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything?
They say interviews will be held in Feb. and they will give ample time to prepare for a trip, but I'm worried since its already Feb and I havent heard anything! Also, will they let us know if we dont make it to the interview round? Will they send rejection letters or just never tell us?
Thanks!
Megan,
I got my undergrad degree (in French and English) from UA in 2008. I took my pre-reqs for the AMNP at Shelton State in Tuscaloosa, which was mad cheap compared to a 4-year college. I totally agree about finding somewhere affordable and safe, but I would also love to be able to walk to class. Of course, I wouldn't mind a short drive if I could split a $600-700 apartment with someone.
I'm new to the forum, so can you private message me or something so we can chat and maybe exchange phone numbers?
Is most everyone paying with loans through FAFSA? If so, do ya'll know when we'll be given info about how much we recieve and when?
It's gotta be relatively soon because we have to register for classes by next week. I've never taken out loans before and I've been slightly confused about some of this
Same here, I'm totally confused and really worried that I won't get my loans in time to pay for classes (or an apartment)!
I've filled out my Fafsa and I'm waiting to get an email with my BlazerNet ID so I can see what kind of loan I'm being offered, but I have to wait and do that before I take out a GradPlus or whatever federal loan to cover rent/utilities/books/food and everything else. I think I'm going to have to take a day off work and just get on the phone with the financial aid office for as long as it takes to get this straightened out.
I think any federal loan money is capped at 20,500, which just barely covers tuition for our first year, although every loan app I've looked at online (federal and private loans) claims that that should cover the entire cost of attendance, including cost of living... So I have no clue how to fill anything out.
Also, did anyone else freak out when they got a random email today saying we need to have out background check and drug testing done by February 4? It was apparently a typo/mix-up and we have until the 15th.
Okay, well I filled out the FAFSA...what is this GradPlus loan? I thought they would just figure out how much we needed for school + cost of living and just give us whatever that amount is. And what's confusing about our program is that it falls into 2 academic school years. So there's a FAFSA for 2010-2011 that covers our summer term and another for 2011-2012 that covers our fall and spring semesters. So that's just more to figure out: getting a loan for the summer semester only. So much to think about and I'm constantly worrying I didn't do this right and I won't be able to pay for anything.
And about that email: definitely didn't get that. The only thing at all that I've even recieved was an email about ordering two polo uniform shirts....but already knew that. I'm starting to worry because we have to register for classes next week and I haven't heard anything. All of this is stressing me out
I know everything's crazy right now, but don't stress yourself out, ok? *hugs* We haven't even started the program yet!
Wow, it hadn't even occurred to me that the first year of our program would fall into two separate years on the Fafsa...! So if I can get my 2010-11 money by May, maybe I won't need to take out a second loan to cover living expenses. I dunno though... I can't wait until 8 AM so I can get someone at UAB to explain this to me.
The Grad Plus loan is a federal loan that's supposed to cover whatever books and living expenses your original financial aid package won't cover. It has a higher interest rate (like 7 or 8%), and I'd really rather not take out 2 loans for the same degree.
I got an email about ordering 2 polo shirts after I asked Jackie Lavier how much they cost, because the price wasn't listed anywhere in my packet. But a couple hours before that Peter Tofani sent me an email about how to set up my drug screen and background check. Maybe it went to your spam box, or maybe he hasn't gotten around to sending out everyone's. It wasn't a mass email, so it might take him a while to get to everyone.
I'm gonna try to go to sleep early tonight (in spite of my stomach being tied in knots over funding!) and get as much straightened out tomorrow as I can. If you want, I'll post any useful info I got from the financial aid office and we can try to figure this out together.
I wish they had a seminar or something on this!
Okay...breathe haha
See I think we'll recieve some money for the summer and then alot more for fall and spring but I could be totally wrong!
And yes anything you find out would be most helpful! I called them last week and asked a couple questions. I guess I was going to wait until I recieved my blazerid and registered for classes and then figure all this out .....
Last week financial aid told me they can't do anything until the school of nursing puts us in the system as enrolled, and the SON told me they'd have us all in the system by last Friday. So...!
I call fin-aid this morning to see what's up and I'm still not in the system. I get transferred to the SON and they say they'll put us all in the system by tomorrow.
I'm feeling like this program isn't a very tightly run ship. I tried to explain to them how worried I was at the last-minute-ness of all this, and the importance of finding out as soon as possible what fin-aid I qualify for, but they just said not to worry about it.
