AMNP at UAB Summer 2011 Applications

Has anyone applied for the AMNP Summer 2011 term? It's been 3 weeks since the deadline for applications and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything?

They say interviews will be held in Feb. and they will give ample time to prepare for a trip, but I'm worried since its already Feb and I havent heard anything! Also, will they let us know if we dont make it to the interview round? Will they send rejection letters or just never tell us?

Omg ya'll, this is finally coming together. I feel a million times better about this financial aid stuff and I'm able to actually see how much I was offered!!

Ok get your B00 and Blazer ID (thanks AmandaChristen). Go here http://main.uab.edu/Sites/apply/financial_aid/ and click "Financial Aid Application Status"

Click the Financial Aid tab

Click Award

Click Award for Aid Year

Select 1011 Award Year (Remember this will be for the Summer term. It falls in the 2010-2011 academic year. We will have separate awards for our Fall and Spring terms next year for 2011-2012)

Click Award Overview and all the info is there!!

Make sure you submit the Title IV form and do the entrance couseling. If you click Accept Award Offer, you'll see you have these requirements to do before you can accept your award.

You'll also need to provide bank account info which is under the student tab

I'm so glad I have some of the financial aid stuff figured out!

I feel like such a goober, as I thought we were getting our TB test at Orientation but we're have some kind of TB info session...so I thought I was done with my med clearance...but I'm not....and my TB test stuff won't be done by the 15th:( So I won't be able to register on time:( It's not the end of the world though:)

Also, with financial aid, our cost of attendance (well, my cost of attendance) isn't right, because the tuition amount they have listed for the Summer session is half of what the nursing program told us it would be. The lady in the financial aid office told me not to worry about it though, and that it would be fixed in due time.

We'll be in classes together in no time:hug:so glad we're able to help each other figure all this out! let's keep this up!

Yeah I was concerned about the estimates too.....but I wasn't going to worry about it til monday haha. Thanks for calling them today!

And I don't think I'll be able to register on time either. But it shouldn't be a big deal. I mean, as long as we register sometime around the 15th right? Surely we won't lose our spots

And yes, I'm getting so anxious to meet everyone! It's going to be funny putting names with faces. I feel like no matter what our real names are, we'll still think of each other as our screennames on here haha

Thanks so much for the info about the B number and BlazerID. I finally figured it out and got my blazer net up and working!!

As for medical clearance, it must be done before the first week of class in order to participate in clinicals. The only thing we have to do by the 15th is the drug screen and background check in order to register. We dont need med clearance to register on Friday..just do all your med stuff soon and turn it in so that the school can process everyone's info before the first week of class!!

Hey yall!! I've been reading this blog for awhile, just never joined! I got accepted into the program and cannot wait to get started!! I'm excited to meet all of yall!! My name is Alyssa and I graduated from UA with a biology degree in Decemer 2009.

I am a little worried with all of these deadlines but seeing that yall have had the same problems as me.. I'm better! :) I still have to get another TB test done so I'm not going to have medical clearance until like 2 weeks! So I'm nervous about registering for classes since it says I have a hold on my account because of the medical records! I didn't know if yall had that same problem. I've been trying to call all day, but cannot get ahold of anybody!! I'm trying not to get so stressed out before the program has even started! LOL If anybody can help just write me back!! Thanks!!

Welcome, Alyssa! From what I understand, it's ok if your medical clearance is a little late. You can actually register as late as May, I think? Just get everything in as quickly as possible. You can even start faxing/mailing in your medical clearance forms before you complete your tb test or whatever and they may give you temporary clearance to let you register for classes. While you're working on that, be sure to get your financial aid info in order and do everything else on the checklist.

Thanks so much bClair! I went ahead and faxed everything in so I'm hoping I can get a temporary clearance!! Also, I thought we were supposed to be getting student ID numbers.. but I have never gotten mine!

Also, if anyone's planning to buy their books off-campus, I got most of mine on Amazon.com for pretty cheap. Some were brand-new for the price of used, and one came with a CD and clinical handbook for free.

Welcome Alyssa:) Someone posted earlier that we just had to have our medical clearance by the time clinicals started, so I'm going to email Ms. Lavier to see if they can remove our holds temporarily so that we can register. I've completed all my medical stuff, except for my second TB test that I'll start on Friday! So glad I'm almost done with people poking me with needles:)

Okay Yall...I emailed Mrs. Lavier and she said we DO have to have medical clearance before we can register....Has anyone been granted temporary clearance?

Yeah, I got confused about that. Someone on here had mentioned that we could register without med clearance completed, but when I talked to a registration lady, she made me feel like an idiot. But no worries, I spoke on the phone this morning with Mr. Tofani, and he said just try to get everything in as soon as you can. No rush, because they blocked off enough number of seats for everyone to register. Also, I talked to an AMNP student from the very 1st cohort and he said that on the first day of classes, there were some people in there that had not been able to technically register and some people who had not even graduated yet because the summer program started before they were finished with undergrad haha.....so point is, were good! I don't really know why they established that Apr 15 deadline

Also I asked my AMNP friend if he had bought books for his classes, and he said he did buy books, but regretted paying for some of them because he never used them. He told me to wait and decide which books would be worth buying, so helpful hint if any of ya'll were debating buying books like I was...

Thanks, Autiger! That helps alot! I've been freaking out all day trying to get someone from the medical clearance department to answer my call so that they could answer I question I have but nothing yet! I guess I can just hold my little horses!
