So I received my acceptance letter, and total, I will be out about $12000 for my BSN through them.

I feel that this will be the best route for me, and is by far a cheaper route.

On top of that, I don't have to take ANY classes other than the BSN classes that I need. That's right, no additional Gen Eds, no statistics and no unneeded classes.

I am really excited, and will be starting April 1! :)

Is American Sentinel Regionally accredited? I know the have CCNE accredidation. Also I have been looking over there RN-BSN program course and descriptions. Doesn't look like they have a health assessment course which is needed by most graduate programs as a prereq. Am i Correct or incorrect?

American Sentinel is not regionally accredited at the present time. However, people on these forums have been told that the school is working on becoming regionally accredited. American Sentinel is nationally accredited by the DETC and has CCNE accreditation, but it's the regional accreditation that can make or break the admissions process to a graduate degree (MSN) program.

i was looking into this school to be able to get a job. all jobs want bachelor degree to apply. do you think employers would accept a degree from american sentinel university? thanks :)

"Be a registered nurse with educational preparation from a nationally (CCNE or NLNAC) accredited nursing program offered by a regionally accredited educational institution."

I spoke to an admissions counselor at Frontier and she said American Sentinel University would not be acceptable.

Yeah. It's very unfortunate that the DETC accreditation does not receive more respect in the academic world. As time passes, perhaps the DETC will amass the same level of prestige as regional accreditation.

SweettartRN,

With this information, will you still pursue American Sentinel University for the RN-to-BSN program?

American Sentinel University has good benefits, which was addressed the thread below:

Please elaborate on regional accreditation. I've been told by many schools make sure a school has CCNE or NLNAC. What does the regional part do for a program that these don't? Thanks, this is a great thread.

I don't know.

I called and had a very lengthy conversation with them. St josephs college of Maine will accept ASU for it's NP program but many will not.

I have applied to Indiana Wesleyan and am looking into their program because they have the RN to BSN as well as a FNP program.

We'll see though. I like the idea of ASU as I could be done a lot sooner. However the lack of regional accreditation does mean that I would have a very hard time and a very small selection of NP programs to choose from.

Sweettart RN, I just finished a "chat" with ASU...I'm impressed with the organization of their information. Cost is very reasonable. With my military assistance it would be under $11,000. They seem organized and to the point...no pressure speil. I don't get the regional accreditation thing and did not ask them about this. I will do some research today. I've applid to OU but let me tell you it has been a hazy pain in the @$$! If Frontier is your goal call them directly and speak with them about this. I will check around as well. I like the format of ASU. Have you spoken with anyone who's actually attended? I'm wondering how challenging, etc the program is. I basically want reasonable cost, fast and not overly stressful. Keep me posted!

I found a great link on accreditation. I think one should be sure about where they want to go with their degree.

Regional accreditation ensures and basically guarantees the transferability of credits to graduate level programs (MSN, FNP, DNP, etc.). A person who earns a BSN degree from a school that lacks the regional accreditation will find that very, very few graduate level programs are going to accept these credits.

BSN from regionally accredited school = acceptance into any MSN program

BSN from non-regionally accredited school = very limited admissions
