Anyone applying for Fall 2015 want to share info? Aka share nervous concerns until we find out in a few weeks? ;-p
After being declined to both Sac City and ARC's ADN programs, I was definitely down and had my mind made up that I wasn't going to be selected by any other colleges for Fall 2015 admission. But today I just received an acceptance email by Sierra College! I'm a first time applicant for all three colleges and I'm beyond happy! Still waiting to here back from CSUEB but I think I will end up attending Sierra! Congrats to everyone that got acceptance letters! And to those of you who have been denied, don't give up! Have faith and keep pushing!
This is why I say (quite often, might I add) that you should apply everywhere that you are qualified for. The more places you apply, the more likely it is you'll be accepted somewhere. Never give up because "no" is the only answer you get if you stop applying.
Hi StacyAnn! I'm in the first semester of ARC's ADN program. I LOVE it. :) I can give you the basics... class schedule is:Mon- OFF
Tues- 7:30 to 1pm (sometimes 12 pm)
Wed- 7:00 to 1-ish for the first 5-6 weeks, then 7:00 to 10:40 lecture and at 12:00 or so you go to the hospital you're doing clinical at to prep for Thurs & Friday clinical.
Thurs - 6 am - 12pm-ish for the first 5-6 weeks. After the first 5-6 weeks you will start clinical. Depending on the shift you get, it could be 6am - 2pm or 2:30pm to 10:30 pm.
Friday- same as Thursdays. :)
The professors are all FABULOUS. Each has their own teaching style, so you'll have to see for yourself who you'll appreciate the most.
It is VERY challenging. There is a TON of reading and preparation. There's no room for slacking, that's for sure! :) Tests are difficult and your grade in the class is pretty much 90% test grades.
Clinicals are very fun. This semester we have 2 different hospitals and 4 different shifts to choose from. Actually, it's not much of a choice... everyone draws a number, then you sign up for your shift in order. So, if there's 40 people in your class and you draw number 39 or 40, you won't have much choice in which clinical you get. There's 10 students per shift, per hospital.
That's the basics... Is there a specific question you'd like me to answer?
Good luck to you all! I hope to see you next semester. Make sure to sign up for the Student Nurse Association! :)
Hello, I found your information very helpful. I just got accepted into the ARC Spring 2016 cohort! I was wondering if you can tell me what are the materials you need to bring to lectures and clinical. Do I need a good rolling backpack to carry everything?

I started 3rd term, so take my advice with that in mind. Yes, a rolling back pack is handy! But if u use e books, all u need is a tablet to be able to access all the books.
Everyone is different regarding learning styles. I bring multi colored pens, multi colored highlighters, a spiral notebook, my binder with the syllabus and the lecture notes (you pay for these, or can print them from D2L)
If you need to bring anything else, your instructors will tell you what's needed for that specific dat: for example, lab kits, stethescope, BP cuff, etc.
The classrooms aren't thermoregulated, therefore in summer we brought blankets to class and in winter we bring coats!
Many students bring lap tops to class, to view lectures online as the professor teaches. I don't do this, but approx 25% of my classmates do.
Hi there ! I am currently a UCSB freshman leaving after my first year to become a nurse. I enrolled in ARC for this summer but am really scared of all the stories I hear of people waiting so long to get it, do you mind if i ask what your stats are so that I kind of have an idea as to where i am standing? also do you recommend the becoming a CNA? kind of thinking about it
Hello d_sbq! I'm a 4th semester nursing student at ARC. ARC's Nursing program is now a merit-based admission. So, as long as you have exceptional grades, you can have better chances of being admitted. You can check out our programs website here: American River College - Nursing
Good luck! :)
