American River College Fall 2013 Applicant Pool

Published

I haven't been to any of the Multicriteria meetings on the new application process for American River College but I have a question:

If ARC is selecting students from the top 30% of applicants and automatically giving top 30% spots to those who have applied 5 or more times, does this mean that the top 30% will be made primarily of those who have applied 5 or more times?

Does it mean that you need an even higher score to be put in the top 30%/one is less likely to get a spot in the top 30% based on the multicriteria score? Or is it the top 30% of the multicriteria scores AND 5+ time applicants are included in the selection pool?

I hope some of this makes at least a little sense :)

If you haven't already, you should seriously look at getting a BOGW. That gets you at least a tuition waiver, small discount on parking, and a discount on the transit pass. You'll still have books and the like to get, but at least the BOGW is one fee that's off your mind.

I was interested in looking into the bogw as well...do you just go online, or should I make an appointment with financial aid?

Oh I get the bog! You just fill out a fafsa and list scc and arc as your schools... If your expected family contribution is $1,104 less than the cost of attending ($17,500ish) you get free tuish!

On my 2012 taxes, I made about $39k and am single (no kids/not married)... I still get the bog!

I just checked on Los rios website and it say that for a fam of 2 out gross has to be under $22,695...yeah we aren't below that....

That's only one of 3 ways to qualify!

Look at Type C:

Type C (must have filed a FAFSA application or

a California Dream Act Application)

You have applied for

financial aid and have been determined to have a unmet need by the Federal

Government. A Minimum Unmet Need of 1,104 is required. For

more information please come to the Financial Aid Office.

2013-2014 Board of Governors Fee Waiver

If you fill out your FAFSA, it will go to the school automatically!

I believe that because I have a bachelor's degree already, I do not qualify for any federal aid at all (including the BOGW). Boo! I can double check with financial aid but I think for certain that is my case.

Awesome!! I will just fill out the FAFSA then :)

You CAN qualify for the bogw with a bachelors degree! Just not federal student loans :)

The bogw is the only type of federal aid a bachelor degree student can get according to the SCC meeting I went to.

Haha the whole time I kept qualifying, I thought I was scamming the system... Turns out I wasn't!

Haha!! Is there a special section in the FAFSA for the bog? Or just fill out the FAFSA as usual?

Nope, just fill it out and when you get to the school section, put scc... It took 10 days for los rios to notify me that I had qualified under "C"...

Oh and I have a tip for parking:

All Saints Episcopal Church (right across the street from Mohr Hall) opens their lot to scc students. It's more expensive than school parking ($20 vs $40), but worth it! Check on their website for when they will be giving out passes. It's first come, first serve, so get there super early!

Thank you for that tip!! Mohr hall is so far from the parking structure!! :)
