I've been offered a full-time position with this company. I've read all the ugly threads here and at indeed.com. I understand that they are probably not the best HHA to work for. However, I've been suffering the last 4 months at a small HHA that doesn't pay mileage, now has such a small census that I am getting 1-2 visits per week, and I have to buy my own supplies (thermometer, probe covers, etc.). At Amedisys at least I'll be getting mileage, won't have to stop at Target to pick up probe covers or sneak blood tubes out of the "supply" closet (we're allowed one per lab draw, no car stock), and will get health benefits. Their coverage area is very small, so no more covering five counties and driving 300 miles a week when on call or weekend duty. However, my husband is convinced that since the area they cover is a "bad neighborhood" that I am going to get shot the very first day. If I survive the first day, then the higher-ups are going to abuse me to the point that I will collapse into a steaming puddle of goo within weeks. Has anyone ever had a good experience with them? Or at least a not-bad experience?

I've received another call from the recruiter..the position that is open would work well for me but there is so much negative posted about this company and to be honest, I don't mind work 8-10 hr days but am not into working from early a.m. until late at night - any improvements w/this company?

Specializes in COS-C, Risk Management.

That's exactly what I thought when the recruiter contacted me. I lived to regret it although I learned a lot.

We must have been hired by the same office, I am now talking witha lawyer about the hostile work environment.....it is a miserable mess.

If you're in NE FL, it's entirely likely and we'd have much to talk about. :-)

Hey there..... I am wondering if there are any Home health RN's with Oasis experience that would be interested in doing travel contracts?

If you are interested or know someone - Please get in touch with me. Thanks so much.

I work for this company. They have a lot of things that need correcting. In my office we do not keep patients on unless they need services. I have been able to care for my patients as I feel the service is needed. I do think this company takes on more patients then there is staff. The computer program needs a lot of improvement, as does the reimbursement procedure. My pay is good, benefits are ok. I do not like being a PPV w/benefits. I prefer being salaried. I am also interested in Jersey 1321's inquiry about travel nurses w/oasis experience

I think Amedysis' days are limited, with the congressional investigation that has been ongoing. I don't think they got as big as they are by doing the right thing!

I don't know or care what it's like working for Amedisys, but as a former "customer" via my assisted-living facility, I'll tell anyone willing to listen that I wouldn't use this company to care for my worst enemy.

The "care" they gave my diabetic resident with cellulitis and necrotic foot wounds almost caused me to call the state board of nursing. I have never seen such incompetence. They didn't even come in for the first nine days that the resident was in my building; we literally had to call and DEMAND someone come out and deal with her wounds because they were so far outside the staff's scope of knowledge. Finally, we got a nurse to come out, and when his course of treatment failed, he said he'd call the doctor and get orders for a different treatment.

He didn't, and four days later (after I'd faxed the MD myself for antibiotics and a definitive wound care regimen) another nurse came in and huffed, "Well, I'M not coming in here twice a day to do this treatment---your staff will have to pick up the slack". My staff are NOT nurses---they are caregivers and medication aides, and they are very good; but they lack the knowledge base and the skill set of a nurse, and I'm not going to delegate a complex dressing change to them. Nor was I going to drive a 60-mile round trip, twice a day, 7 days a week, for months on end to deal with it myself. So, it either had to be a simpler treatment, or we were going to be shipping the resident to a SNF if home health couldn't fulfill the minimum requirements.......

The huffy nurse said, "OK, I'll call the doctor since C.J. (the first nurse) didn't get to it. I think I know what I can do" and went back to the resident's room. Next morning, my med aide called me to the treatment room and asked me to look at the foot, which had worsened dramatically. Over that wound, the huffy nurse had slapped a 4x4 Duoderm hydrocolloid dressing, which not only adhered to the entire thing causing severe discomfort for the resident, but overnight had created a 2 cm area of maceration surrounding the wound.

Even with all the moisture built up in the area, it took me five minutes to gently soak the dressing off with saline, and it hurt the resident no matter how slowly I went. Needless to say, I was furious with Amedisys........first they don't even bother to show up for a week and a half, then they send in a nurse who doesn't follow through, and THEN they send a complete incompetent with a bad attitude.

So the granddaughter and I got together and fired Amedisys. Regrettably, it was too little, too late, and the poor resident developed sepsis and died 10 days later. And while I generally hesitate to paint an entire company with the same broad brush, this one will not be welcome in my building as long as I'm the DNS.

Bottom line? Don't work for Amedisys if you care about your professional reputation. I've talked with other AL nurses around the area, and this company does not have a good name in the community. And with practices such as those some posters have already described, I don't think they're too scrupulous as an employer either. Phooey!

I know this is an old thread but wanted to post...a friend of mine interviewed with them at the end of June. Was offered a position in early July. The start date was changed twice - by the hiring manager...she is suppose to begin in 2 weeks - almost 3 months after her initial interview.. She asked him why the dates were changed..never really got a straight answer other than he has been out of town to meetings, having to take call/see patients because some nurses have been out for various reasons. She found out today as well that her reference checks have not been done - this came from HR directly. She isn't concerned about anything but doesn't understand why all the delays, changes etc. She also said no drug test has been done - which seems odd. She is now really concerned about going to work for them because of this and she met someone who worked for the same office and said his mileage was always getting messed up or not paid correctly.

I told her about this site and all the posts on here about them as well as they are always advertising on the job boards for nurses and I notice that every few months it seems the same positions are posted after being taken down for a few months. As far as the fraud investigation, she wasn't able to find anything current on this and neither was I...is this still going on? She said she is going to give this job 6 months if she ever gets started!

I started with Amedisys in May. At the time that I was hired, I was told that I would be paid a salary for 60 days and then would go to per visit pay. However, the DOO told me that they would probably extend the salary (as they have for the last 2 years to the other nurse) as long as the census was low. This happened for one month, but I am now being told that I will be going to per visit pay on my next paycheck, a cut of at least 75% to my pay. Our agency has 5 patients and two full time RN's. Do the math. This is not going to pay my mortgage, let alone the utility bills! I am upset that I was misled this way.

I am new to Home Health, and needed lots of training. The CBT's available are wonderful, however, I found that the individual one on one mentoring that is supposed to be provided (based on the training plan I found somewhere in their online documents) was nowhere to be had. When I complained to the DOO about the lack of mentoring (I had one visit with another RN), she said that was the way it was for everyone in the office. That still doesn't make it right. So now I am being called into the office every other day about something I did wrong, because I was never trained the way to do it right. Her response is that I don't ask the right questions. How can I, when I don't know what I don't know.

They don't do prehire drug screening, but I found out that they do perform random screening.

I have had enough. I am looking elsewhere. I have an interview on Tuesday with another HHA (hospital based). I pray something comes along soon. I want out now!
