I've been offered a full-time position with this company. I've read all the ugly threads here and at indeed.com. I understand that they are probably not the best HHA to work for. However, I've been suffering the last 4 months at a small HHA that doesn't pay mileage, now has such a small census that I am getting 1-2 visits per week, and I have to buy my own supplies (thermometer, probe covers, etc.). At Amedisys at least I'll be getting mileage, won't have to stop at Target to pick up probe covers or sneak blood tubes out of the "supply" closet (we're allowed one per lab draw, no car stock), and will get health benefits. Their coverage area is very small, so no more covering five counties and driving 300 miles a week when on call or weekend duty. However, my husband is convinced that since the area they cover is a "bad neighborhood" that I am going to get shot the very first day. If I survive the first day, then the higher-ups are going to abuse me to the point that I will collapse into a steaming puddle of goo within weeks. Has anyone ever had a good experience with them? Or at least a not-bad experience?

5 Patients?? For the whole agency?

Yes, 5 patients for the whole agency, and two of those are therapy only. The agency is about two years old. They keep saying now that we got certified to take Medicaid we should be getting more patients. They have been saying that since May. It is pretty sad. I don't see how they can stay open. All of the staff see the writing on the wall, but the DOO and BOM keep saying don't worry. Well I am worried. I cannot support my family on five visits a week. :crying2:

Yeah, just wait until you end up driving around for 3 hours to see patients that mysteriously "aren't home" despite supposed homebound status and get paid for 1/5 visits you had scheduled. I can't count the # of wasted days where I netted maybe $7-10 per hour total for time actually worked (counting OASIS). I can make more than that at McDonalds and not have to smell cat poop.

I know this thread is old but I wanted to post this.....I read all the negative here and other places but to be honest, I had to have a job.so I accepted a position. Well..I am not even out of the computer portion and I already know this company is not for me. The Mother Theresa print looms large and I had to laugh to myself when I read on here and other places they have the same print in all the offices. I won't bore anyone with the details but to those of you who are considering this company..think twice, three times, or more. I know first hand what everyone on here and at other sites who work for them or did means. I am actively seeking employment elsewhere and as soon as I have something I am gone from here.

Does that office have imaginary patients that are being billed to Medicare? Just had a whole slew of indictments against another agency in Louisiana that had 'imaginary patients'. How are they keeping that office open and people on the payroll? Something fishy here. Might be worth a call to DHH!

In General I am finding that "case management" sucks big time. It was so much better for patient outcomes and continuity of care when it was RN from start to finish. Less people to deal with and u have eyes on and hands on with that patient.

I don't know when all this case management started but it is very intrusive when you have people calling (other disciplines) while you are trying to see a patient.

I have found other employment and am going to resign today. I 'hate" it but it's just not for me...at least not with them.

I work for Amedisys and love it. I had not done home health before this job and it was a little overwhelming to begin with, but if you have good people in the office, BOM, BOS, DOO, CM and you do the job you are asked to do in a timely manner it's all good. Sure, I have good days and bad days, mileage is based on shortest distance, you have to do annual learning, lots of paperwork, but I'm very happy and blessed to work with the group of people I work with.
