Dandruff? Try an aspirin shampoo!

According to MayoClinic.com, possible causes for dandruff include sensitivity to hair care products, shampooing too frequently or infrequently, eczema, and psoriasis. The most common dandruff treatment is medicated shampoo. However, those who prefer natural home remedies may find that adding crushed aspirin to your shampoo can do the trick. Aspirin contains salicylates, the same active ingredient in medicated shampoos containing salicylic acid.

Take as much shampoo as you use each time you shampoo, (capful?) add two crushed aspirin tablets, leave on hair for a couple minutes, then rinse out completely. Works great!

Hey, thanks :) I've got a sensitivity to sodium laurel sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate- in almost every standard shampoo.... I use the medicated stuff with some results, but will have to try the aspirin :)

Aloe Vera rocks! I slathered a ton of it on my sunburn today.

Tea trea is good for acne. My son swears by it for his zits.

Any natural remedies for dandruff that work?

Another old stalwart treatment for dandruff is shampoo/soap with Pine Tar in it. It's kind of hard to picture how someone would've thought to smear pine tar on their scalp but they still had tons of products based on that in the 80s when I worked in dermatology. Urea or uric acid was another common ingredient along with salicylic acid.

they do make a sulfate free shampoo . I was watching dirty jobs and they had the compeny on I do not remeber the name sady .

If you are sensitive to the sodium laurel sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate in commercial shampoos, you might want to consider something like the shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley. They are made without chemicals, and I love them. I don't have to use conditioner any more and they are kind to my sensitive skin. https://www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com/shambar.htm

I have had a chronically dry itchy scalp, made worse by lice and subsequent RID treatment (long story involving trashy neighbor's kids playing with my kids). I mixed tea tree oil with my shampoo and then after my shower I used a dropper and put the tea tree oil right on my scalp. It did wonders. I now use tea tree oil directly on my scalp 1-2 times a week and no more dry itchy, flaky scalp. I have had no more scalp issues since doing this. I had tried several other dandruff treatments with no help.

Last year I had to dressing changes for a pt who was receiving maggot debridement therapy for some non-healing wounds on her legs . Cool but gross all at the same time. I think I would have preferred the dressing made of honey :D

Vitamin D and Melatonin for night shift workers. Made me feel like a new person!
