Am I too old?

Published

Hi, I'm 32 years old, I've been a CNA in the past and I can't get the idea out of my head that I want to be a registered nurse. Am I too old to start nursing school?

I just turned 42 last week. I graduated with my BSN in December. No, you aren't too old.

Absolutely not. You will have the advantage of life experience to bring to your career. It's better to try than always wonder "what if". Good luck.

I was 32 when I went into nursing school. I graduated at 36. Two of my friends were 52 and 55 when we graduated.

Good day, ollieanne:

I started working on my prerequisites last June; I'm 50 years young. Thanks to Jesus, I've been accepted into a RN program starting this August (I'll be 51 when I start). Should all go well, I'll graduate in May 2016; I'll be 53 years young. I've known of people older than I; they are doing well.

You can do it.

Thank you.

No. I thought I was too old at 26! (When I graduated!) So silly. Like others have said, many of my classmates were in their late 20's, 30's, 40's. We had a few in their 50's. It's never too late!

Its never too late!! :)

No, you are not old.

Definitely NO! Age is just a number. It doesn't stop you from being a nurse.

Specializes in ICU.

Nope!! I am 38, will be the ripe old age of 40 when I graduate. :)

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Not at all! I'm 34 and will be graduating in May. I'm right in the middle, age-wise, in my class. We have a couple of ladies in their early 50s. Go for it!
