Never knew about the pass/fail & 3.0 GPA but yes you are right, with that GPA it will be tough to get in to grad school if you plan on doing that. I guess online learning works for some people but I am not sure if it is for me.

I also applied to COM and I’m applying to HCC after I take the critical thinking section of HESI (I don’t even know what to study for it). I don’t think I’ll have enough time to apply at San Jac - I have not submitted my transcripts to them yet.

It's kind of tough to advise how to study for the critical thinking section. I would look up critical thinking questions for the HESI. I found some things that are sort of similar to how some of the questions were formatted:
https://quizlet.com/112350274/HESI-A2-critical-thinking-questions-flash-cards/

https://quizlet.com/117177716/HESI-A2-critical-thinking-rationale-flash-cards/

From what I remember, the questions will prompt a scenario and then be framed as if they're asking your opinion--but it's really not. It's an indicator of how someone might insert their own beliefs or ideologies into a situation instead of being able to unbiasedly critically think about the situation. At some point, I did find it kind of difficult to withhold what I personally believed or felt about a situation. So, you want to choose the MOST correct answer. Or maybe the most neutral answer? (if you will). I know that might seem obvious, but it's really trying to gauge your critical thinking skills within a situation.

Someone correct me, if I'm wrong. But that's what I got from my testing experience with this section.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll study these quizlets and might take this section next week.

Hello all,

I am applying to ACC and waiting to do the online info session. I also applied to HCC but to be honest, they seem to be trying to keep people out with all their requirements. They made me take the HESI again so that they can have a CT score as well as the TSI because according to them, my college math from home is useless to them (I have a BS in Microbiology). I just figured, I have gotten this far so.... I have all my pre-reqs except Lifespan (in progress). I am also taking US History I and II, Psych Statistics and American Government (to apply for BSN) in case I do not get in this year. If I do, the then I will have some of my BSN pre-reqs ready to go. I would have LOVED to go to Chamberlain which is about 5 minutes from my place but the cost is SCARY for a single-mom of 2 like myself!!

May God reward all our hard work. Good luck all!

Hello all, I’m also applying for the Fall semester. The deadline was extended to April 10th due to all this Coronavirus stuff but I don’t mind LOL I just found out about this nursing program 2 or 3 days ago, applied and got accepted to the school then immediately applied to the nursing program. I have a Bachelors in Criminal Justice which helps ? and IDK the in-district tax bracket distance but I’m in the middle of moving to Pearland now. I was reading the previous forums and here are my stats:
my HESI cumulative score was an 86

A&P l: B

A&P ll : A

English: B

Psych: A

Pre-Req GPA- 3.50

I made a C in Microbiology but IDK if this is counted in the GPA, I hope not because I want to re-take it during the program, if accepted. ?? I pray that it all works in God’s will for everyone

Well, last semester the average GPA was 3.58 & I had an 3.56, but I didn't have micro. I also made C but a 92 on the HESI. Karen said my high HESI might get me in but that C messed up my GPA.. Good luck!

I’d retake my HESI..

Yes I know my scores could possibly place me as an alternate. I’ve applied to a few other schools and have already been accepted into the LVN at Lonestar. Good luck to you as well!

What other schools have you applied to? I’m aware that I’ll likely be rejected from ACC, too, if not waitlisted. I won’t be heart broken though because it doesn’t hurt to try! Most of these programs are so competitive, it’s not even funny. I have my reservations if I can’t get into my preferred programs.

I would just schedule a tour at Chamberlain and speak with an advisor. Of course when everything finally calms down with the coronavirus stuff. It’s not as bad as people think, actually. And it doesn’t hurt to talk to them about everything before submitting an application or transcripts.
When I went, I went there thinking I would be paying $80,000 when the advisor helped me understand that I would actually be paying closer to $20,000 for the BSN for the two years I’d be there taking nursing courses. Still expensive, but comparable to UTMB’s accelerated 15 month BSN program with a price point of about $19k.
So it’s definitely in your best interest to transfer in as many prerequisite courses as possible, if you’re legitimately considering attending there. Because then you don’t have to worry about them and can just go straight to taking foundational nursing courses. Reduces the price quite a bit.

Oh WOW! Thank you for this info. May I ask why you decided not to go with Chamberlain? You are right about $20-ish K for core BSN courses making more sense so I am actually intrigued to hear more.

Hello Ms Brittni,

I wish you luck as you apply. I honestly do not know a lot about this race but I am scheduled for the online applicant meeting today. All I know is that I have way better chance here in Texas than when I was in California where it is mostly by lottery regardless of how fantastic one's grades were.

I actually am still considering attending there. I wanted to finish my prerequisites and transfer in all the ones I can before applying and sending transcripts because I heard that once they evaluate your transcripts, they won’t allow you to transfer in anything else. I’ll have verify that with an advisor. I still have to take A&P II and the laboratory to Micro.

They have multiple start dates throughout the year, so there are plenty of chances to be admitted. The only thing I disliked about the place was that the advisor told me I had to retake (their version of) the HESI. So I also wanted some time to prepare for that as well because from what I remember, he told me if you don’t score a 72 or higher in certain sections, you’ll be required to take those specific courses with them instead of transferring them in. I guess it makes sense, but it still sucks if you’ve already taken, paid and passed a course.

Really, it was between Chamberlain and Western Governors for me if I couldn’t get into these other programs. The reason Chamberlain comes first is because the start date would be sooner (I’m very impatient at this point), it appears to be cheaper than ’s BSN Prelicensure program and the teaching method is in-person format which I would prefer for a program training you to become a registered nurse.

You seem to have a solid SOLID plan. I too was put off by the fact that they require yet ANOTHER HESI ( I paid for and already took 2 different ones for ACC and HCC). In addition, they refused to do any course substitution for some of the credits I had in California as opposed to ACC. The thought of spending more time on prerequisites was kills me. Do you know where one can take 3 credit Pathophysiology, preferably online?

The way you explain it makes do much sense and I will explore it again, thank you so much. I totally understand your impatience...I will turn 40 in October and I have a rising Sophomore and rising 6th grader. I most certainly don't want to be in school when my kids are in college because someone needs to pay their bills.
