Starting a thread for people applying for Spring 2015 at Alvin Community College. Also wondering if anyone knows what counts as proof for Hepatitis B immunity?

Hi Derrick86, thanks for your post it was very helpful. I agree this forum is great for tips, pointers, updates, questions, you name it! lol As soon as you all start to receive email/mail please get on to let us know, and vice versa... it will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! I am beginning my pre reqs for ADN at Alvin this fall and I wanted to know-Do they consider only the nursing curriculum courses (science,Psych..) GPA or the overall GPA. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

@VRM5189, Here is some information that was used for the previous application period (Spring 2015 applicants). I would advise you to check their website often and attend an information session as soon as possible because they make changes to the curriculum each semester. This way you will have the most up-to-date information and are ONLY taking courses that you will need for admissions. Hope this helps! :)

How are students selected for admission? Admission to the ADN program is competitive. After the

application deadline, applicants are ranked primarily according to the number of completed courses in the ADN

curriculum, the GPA of those courses, and HESI A2 test scores. Priority admission is given to applicants who:

1) achieved high standardized test scores (HESI A2); 2) earned a high grade point average in the ADN

curriculum academic coursework; 3) completed BIOL 2401; and, 4) completed, or are in progress in, BIOL

2402. Additional consideration is given to applicants who: 1) complete ADN curriculum courses without

repeating or withdrawing from courses in the last five years from the application deadline; 2) complete ADN

curriculum courses at ACC; 3) hold a Bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university; and,

4) reside in the ACC tax district.

To get a high ranking, you should have a high grade point average in as many general education (non-nursing)

ADN curriculum courses as possible, and achieve a high HESI-A2 score. We do not count grades of courses

that are not part of the ADN curriculum. Admission is very competitive, and students accepted into the program

usually have completed many courses in the ADN curriculum with an A-B average and have a test score

significantly higher than the required minimum score.

Hello All, have any of you taking Pharmacology at Alvin CC and if so how was it? I am looking to take it ASAP so any recommendations on on professors, study tips, etc.

Hi,FutureRN

I took Pharmacology in another school (Houston). You need to give it undivided attention if you need good grade, because it reqires a lots of memorizaton. When I took I made an index cards for the drugs and take them every where I go and study. With that being said I made "B", for me it was bit harde with a family responsibilities and work BUT if you are not working and don't have family to support, you can do great, this is just my experience.

I would guess you might know about ratemyprofessor.com by now you can search for good teachers.

(Alvin Community College - RateMyProfessors.com-look for the pharm professors)

One thing I saw in my school is the pharmacology class registration closes very quick so you need to search a good teacher and go for it, if you have too. You can do it !

Good luck !!!

Hi, derrick86

If you don't mind, can you tell me if 79 is your over all HESI score or just Biology ?

Do you reside in Alvin,TX ?

I am just wondering if they really considering to taking out of district students. Thanks

For all future nurses :nurse: :nurse:out there please feel free to ask questions, whoever knows about it will come up with some info, so be courageous to ask:)

Good luck !!!

My overall was a 79. And I do not reside in district for Alvin. A girl I applied with last semester was #3 on the wait list and she ended up getting in, and she didn't live in alvin.

oh well thats good to hear because I do not reside in Alvin, although I wished I did to save a little extra mulah! *tear*

Thanks a lot derrick for the info. I really appreciated your quick response. Wow there is a great chance for anyone who met their criteria :) that sounds cool.

Yes , FutureRN that is good news for me too:)

That is actually good to hear! I dont live anywhere close to Alvin, and afraid that would count against me. If I'm accepted I plan on moving closer to Alvin like the Clear Lake, League city, or Pearland area.

Does anyone know if any notifications have gone out? like rejections due to incomplete applications. I had a friend who applied to Alvin last year and said she received her rejection notice around this time and she wasnt accepted due her grades. She said it should be early to mid October when acceptances are sent out. Anyone else anxious or is it just me?!

Did your friend mention if she received her letter via email or mail? Just trying to get an idea of where to look first lol

It's all done through email
