Allina Health not hiring online NP grads

Allina Health Nurse Practitioner II Job in Minneapolis, MN | Glassdoor

"Allina Health does not hire new grads from all academic institutions. Many proprietary on-line schools do not meet Allina Health's standards due to the minimal oversight of the student's clinical experience, the high faculty/student ratio, and the lack of focus on national certification standards in the curriculum."

I think we should take action and petition the credentialing bodies to remove the credentials of the FOR PROFIT schools, or atleast raise the the dang standard. Letters flooding in would surely get things going in the right direction.

But then again maybe I am painting too broad. I just hope there is some degree of oversight with these schools. Too often it appears that the industry is moving from an altruistic driven profession to a monetary driven profession. Which would be a major crime in taking care of other human beings.

This philosophy holds true today. My understanding is that there are no for-profit degree granting allopathic medical programs in the US.

Use of the word allopathic keeps this statement true, however, there are certainly for profit medical schools that have sprung up in recent years; in fact, one is being built in my city right now. It appears that these cash cow type schools are no longer limited to nursing, and are spreading out. Not even DO is protected. I read a few recent articles stating that allopathic MD for-profit programs have been proposed. For additional reading:

"After completing an emergency medicine residency and an ultrasound fellowship at the University of Kentucky, Rose is preparing to begin his career as a doctor in Boise. He said the job will allow him to continue chipping away at his $350,000 in student loan debt. That's nearly double the average debt carried by medical school graduates, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. And because Rose attended a for-profit program, he's not eligible for many federal loan-forgiveness programs."

Yikes! So, the for-profit medical schools will be exploiting desperate and gullible students who can't get into "regular" schools, too, just like the for-profit nursing schools ...

I could be mistaken but this doesn't sound like the cream of the crop will be churned out there either.

Yeah, I'm wondering whether "promising to create new family doctors for underserved rural regions" is code for "minimal, low quality education" because, y'know "underserved rural regions" can't afford to be too choosy and should just take whatever they can get.

I'm fairly convinced of it. I can't count the number of times a PCP or nursing faculty has said to me "what are we supposed to do? There isn't enough providers." Ummm not accept shoddy care???? They are referring to a PCP attempting to get creative with psych meds, which usually translates to handing out whatever expensive sample they have in the closet then adding a second one in two weeks, as well as schools graduating poor quality of NPs. In my area the wait for a non urgent psych med management appointment is about 3 months and it is reasonable to expect a PCP to slog along for that length of time doing their best however get the referral in place and for Pete's sake get them in therapy which is often more important than the actual medications, which they aren't doing. 3 months is not that long of a wait for a non urgent patient. Most are not in immediate critical need or they should be referred to the ED for an inpatient psych admit.

Thank You danielle2000

I am confused, UK is a not for profit University..

he went to med school at the for profit. residency at a state school.

I could be mistaken but this doesn't sound like the cream of the crop will be churned out there either.

And I'll just bet there will NOT be a bunch of physicians willing to openly bad mouth them either.
