All FSCJ Spring 2013 Hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone! I decided to start this thread in hopes of seeing if there is anyone excited about applying to the fscj RN program spring 2013. I am currently taking a microbiology class this summer. I would have applied for fall 2012 but met with some technical difficulties. I have 206 in total points w/o micro. Let's stay in touch and keep this ball rolling!

There is a lot of stuff you can get/do ahead of time, stethoscope, sphigmomanometer, white shoes, physical, PPD, MMR/Varicella/Hep B titers, TDAP, tetorifice vaccine, flu shot, and passport picture.

The uniforms come from a specific site and you have to have a code to access the correct uniform tops but you can get white scrub bottoms from anywhere.

Good Morning Jess,

In regards to the physical-I was informed that we cannot get that done until after we have received our acceptance packet, and or email. I looked back at my old packet from last term, and it pretty much says as much. It states that the physical must be completed after the letter date...has this changed? If so, I'm going to go ahead and get a jump-start :)

I just looked at my packet and it doesn't say anything about the physical having to be done after a certain date. There is a form that needs to be filled out but most doctors will fill it in without seeing you again if you've just had a physical. All that is on the physical form is places to document your titers/PPD/flu vax and a place to sign that states you are healthy. To be safe though you may want to postpone the physical.

I just called my doctor's office and scheduled my physical and immunization. I am going mid December so hopefully we will know by then. I just wanted to schedule the appointment now so that I know I have it and wont be rushing around trying to get it done.

I went in last week to get my titers and immunizations updated, just waiting for test results. If anyone has not gotten Hep B vaccine, you should, it the longest series (6 months) . I am not taking any physicals or TB testing until I get accepted and decide which school I am going to attend. Thank God my titers and immunizations are covered 100% by the preventative health plan, check with your insurance, most people might be covered and not know it. Is anyone going to get a Meningitis vaccine?

Looks like I am not the only one who wants to get a jump-start on getting everything done!! I am a little concerned about the upfront cost for the things we will have to rush and get done after receiving our acceptance letters (Notice how I am speaking positively about us ALL getting accepted? ;) ). To anyone who was accepted in the past, can you provide us with a list of what they will be asking for? I need to get my funds together!

Is there a special form we need to fill out for the titers? Or will whatever or doctors give us be ok?

Also... A little confused about the passport picture...what's it for, where are we supposed to do that,... And it doesn't actually require a passport right? I know it probably sounds a little silly considering how long it takes to get a passport. I'm assuming we just need some sort if official picture for an ID card of some kind, but clarification would be greatly appreciated. Also saw something at one point about fingerprints?

I got an email notification Friday night for an interview from UCF School of Nursing for the BSN I believe I'm in :) It will be on the 30th...So I might not go to FSCJ if this works out. But the night school is still a great option, so I still have hopes with FSCJ if I cant get work and school figured out. I expect we will be getting responses soon from FSCJ, many other schools have started sending out letters.

There should be a form in the acceptance packet when we get it. What I did was look up the most common vaccine from UCF School of nursing from a 2011 pdf document and I just wrote those down on a piece of paper and took it to my doctor, and said I would like to be tested for all these...they print a script and send me to a lab, now I waiting for results. Most nursing schools ask for the same thing all of these can be done in advance:

MMR

Polio

Varicella (chicken pox)

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B

Tetorifice, Diphtheria, Pertussis or Tdap for short (most need a vaccine booster for this, i did not ask for a titer)

Meningococcal aka menigitis (often optional)

Annual flu vaccine

Being a prior EMT years ago I believe I had all those vaccines already but I got no records which is why I opted for titers. I already got my flu vaccine and I need a Tdap booster and with all the news I'll probably get the meningitis vaccine. It good to have the records with your present doctor, when you get the form, just take it in for them to fill out.

Other thing UCF asked for is a TB test and physical, but i waiting for after my interview and to get the acceptance packet.GET COPIES OF YOUR LAB TESTS and vaccine dates and keep them in a safe place.
