All FSCJ Spring 2013 Hopefuls

Published

Hi everyone! I decided to start this thread in hopes of seeing if there is anyone excited about applying to the fscj RN program spring 2013. I am currently taking a microbiology class this summer. I would have applied for fall 2012 but met with some technical difficulties. I have 206 in total points w/o micro. Let's stay in touch and keep this ball rolling!

Last day to get in the applications. Good luck everyone! Hope to meet you all in the Spring.

So now that the waiting has officially begun, anyone start researching what types of materials they will be getting for classes?

I thought I read that there's alot of stuff (uniform wise) that we'll only be able to get through the approved business? Is that right...what kind of stuff have you been looking at?

I believe our uniform tops have to have the fscj logo on them, but pretty sure we can use plain white bottoms (heard wal mart sells cheap). Also....I've ready over the Fall 2012 FSCJ feed on this website and i remember a post with one girl stating the stuff we could get ahead. Like stethoscope etc. And check craigslist for used uniforms from previous students =) Hope this helps.

I have to admit...it was nice working this past weekend in my LTC facility with the thought that maybe my time on the med cart was now limited. I love and will keep my job, but in a different position.

I know a lot of you have ideas of what type of nursing you would like to do when you complete the program. It will be interesting to see how your decisions will be impacted by the things you see in school. When I entered the LPN program, I had no medical experience - just my wife's stories, observations, and experiences as an LPN. I never thought I would work in, and eventually love long-term care.

Just a question to pass the time.......Could you see yourself working in a field of nursing that you were not passionate about - simply because the pay rate was better or because it was the only job available? Believe it or not, this is a question that will present itself to you continually throughout your career in the medical field.

I've been looking at shoes and stethoscopes and I saw some apps that people recommended to stay organized. Some people also recommended a recorder to go over your notes. If you have a long ride to school you could listen to them each day on the drive.

As far as positions in nursing...I never worked in medical field but I was a police officer for over 6 years. I have some medical training bc police officers are first responders. I have dealt with gunshot wounds, broken bones, lacerations, etc. I would like to try to do forensic nursing because I have the criminal justice experience, but I am really open to anything.

There are definitely positions I would prefer, but I don't really see myself lacking passion in any field of nursing. I've gone through a lot of different experiences and haven't yet seen something that would put-me-off,...so to speak. I think that everything has it's purpose, even if some are less gratifying, less prestigious, or whatever... Though I've never worked in the medical field,...I've spent enough time around it know that it's not all going to be glorious, but it'll at least be fufilling.

I applied as soon as I completed Micro over the summer with a total of 197 points, now that the deadline is up the waiting is killing me! I was pretty confident in my points when I turned in my application, now I'm starting to worry since I didn't quite make it over that magical 200 mark. Waiting for that letter to come is the hardest part....

Good luck to everyone! :)

I'm having the same paranoia. When I first turned in my application the lady wouldn't take my CPR certificate because she said I didn't need to turn it in. After calling the school several times I finally got confirmation that yes, I did need the cpr cert. in my application, so I ran it up to the school. The lady said she would put it in my file, but I'm still freaking out that it didn't make it in there since I didn't actually see it go with my application...

197 is still really a great score. I think last quarter the cutoff was 194 if I am correct. Looking at everyone's score on his is very intimidating, but you have to remember that this is only a very small portion of people applying.

Really good point @katsoares! I think everyone's able to find some insecurity about their own point totals. But in reality, 197 is a score that many people would love to have.

Everyone seems to be applying for nights/weekends, anyone apply for days?

my main choice is for nights, I choose days as a backup plan. Honestly it does not matter as long as I got in.
